Hi mill

Your sister can ask her GP or consultant for a referral to another doctor for a second opinion - you can click on the link below for further information:

If your sister wants to do this privately she can access Dr Foster:

As always you can speak to us on 03000 030 555.

Cheers

Jo

If your GP uses the "Choose & Book" system they normally only include hospitals in your local area but if you want to/are prepared to go to any hospital, ask them to include the hospital you specifically want to choose.

I would definitely recommend the Royal Brompton hospital as they are specialists in IPF. However, even though you can go on the NHS, you will have to be prepared to pay transport/accommodation costs. That's what I did and although I have had to pay for 3 visits so far and another due in May, (300 miles each way each trip) it has been worth it but I was lucky enough to have been able to save up some money from my pension first.

Once they have finished all the tests in order to do a proper assessment I think it is the intention to come up with a care plan that can then be followed by my local hospital so presumably they could do similar for you if necessary.

I believe Papworth Hospital is excellent for IPF too but I don't have personal experience of them.

Good Luck whatever you decide. :-)

mapal's right, the Brompton has the largest IPF unit in Europe
