Big up for Steven Fry. The article made very upsetting reading. My goodness me I thought Thatcher was bad, but this shower make her look like Mary Poppins - er well not quite.

Thanks for sharing Julie.

not a bad bloke old Jeeves :-)

This govt seems determined to subsidise the well-off at the expense of the working poor and disabled (cofdrop, I think Owen Jones was saying that on Question Time the other night too?), leaving them even even poorer and more marginalised. And newspapers like the Daily Mail encourage the vilifcation of these groups, as if they're to blame for the economic crisis!

You only have to think of the cynical way the Remploy factories were closed, with the promise of "reinvestment in other schemes to help the disabled find work", to see how little the govt really cares for disabled people. So they were loss-making, so what? Sometimes it's not about money.

It's time all disabled people, and the able-bodied like me, got together UK-wide and made themselves heard. I am utterly ashamed of the way disabled people, and the mentally ill, are treated in this so-called civilised country.

we could collate examples of the actual harm to everyone here of all these cuts - it's only when things get people specific that most folk it up and pay attention - as per the Dowler family - let's pull some heart strings .

none of the tories have a heart,so no strings to pull there.the rest of our british people are suffering too, many not knowing where the next meal will be,not having a roof over their heads,no comfort,no future.this government will see the poor and vunerable on their knees and still sneer while they sit in their big warm houses with their big fine meals and fine wines.they wont listen to US,they dont SEE us.

If the Government want to throw disabled people out work (Remploy), then they have no feelings for the rest of us, they are only in it for their business friends

Always liked Mr Fry,,

I agree. The government do not understand the problems of the disabled and they do not want to. And if they did they still wouldn't care. It is part of their ideology that most disabled people are 'scrounging off the state'. You could produce a whole forest of literature proving the opposite and they would still choose not to believe it! They want to keep the poor, and working class in their place so they will doff their caps to their betters like they did in the 'good old days'. Their good old days - not ours...Public School Bigots!!!
