Winter coat.

I went shopping with my daughter for a new warm Winter coat, I said I wanted one suitable for funerals, she could not believe it, I said "at our age you have to think about that".

I have not had a new one for a few years and I could not believe how heavy they are by the time I had got one on and done up the really hard buttons I could hardly move. (Have they got heavier or have I got weaker) I don't know how many I tried on but I know the muscles in my back are aching.

In the end I gave up and decided on a bright red wax jacket to keep the cold wind out, and if I need to I will have to borrow one. :-)

I COMPLETELY understand your struggle as I had the same experience recently. They are definitely heavier or I have turned into a ?stone weakling! I ended up with one that fitted but I was not really so keen on as I just had not got the energy to try another. Hope the funerals hold off until next year!

No worries pollyjj, there is always the charity shop or the recycle centre, or just do as they did in the old days, wear a wide black ribbon around your upper arm.

It is tiring trying on clothes and shoes for sure. Your aches may indicate you need to exercise a bit more to keep your breathing apparatus strong and working well, doing so will help you no end, as well as helping you achieve other activities such as shopping for a new coat and other goodies. ;)

Enjoy your new jacket.

There are some smart fleeces around. Cold out there. I love my fleeces in all colours.Keep warm.

Hi Polly I agree with annie. I never buy heavy winter coats any more. Fleeces are brilliant and so light. Make sure you get one which is lined and if possible with a hood and you need never feel cold again!

You can also get windproof and fully lined jackets - I think they are called 'regatta'. They are lovely and light too.

Went to funeral on Thurs and was worn out after as I wore my black winter coat and carried my oxygen tank, I hadn't realised how heavy my coat was until then. My lovely husband gave me the money to buy a new one, couldn't find one in Matalan all heavy, went to a large Sainsburys in Gloucester cos I liked a fleece in my local one but they didn't have it in my size but had to go to Gloucester for something else so thought I would have a look, they had it but didn't like it when I tried it on, but did find a light weight coat in black and white large dogtooth check, which will do for funerals and had enough money left to buy a lovely cable knitted jacket with a lamb like lining which was also light. On the subject of shoes Shoezone do shoes called soft and light and they are and are not dear either.
