Percentage of Predicted Result - A predicted result for a patient that is the same sex height weight and age as you are David that gives the doctor a figure that is considered normal for you.

I am pleased for you having normal figures 80% will be considered normal you have much to enjoy from a healthy life such good news is not often found when testing is taken from patients be happy.

Hi

Thanks for the advie and comments.

Been off the cigs for year and a half noe, will never put another cig in my mouth.

David

Hello David.

Yes your results are very good but could I just point out there is more to COPD than lung function measurements. You've already been told you have mild COPD - having any form of COPD isn't "normal" so don't rest on your laurels!

Recent NICE guidelines (April 2012) are that it is no longer necessary to have an FEV1 of less than 80% predicted for a diagnosis of COPD, if there are "respiratory symptoms, for example exertional breathlessness, cough, regular sputum production, wheeze or frequent winter bronchitis. This is especially so if you're over 35 and a smoker or ex-smoker (sorry I cannot post the link as it's from a powerpoint presentation)

So, although your COPD may be mild, you must do all you can to stay as well as you can (obviously, definitely give up smoking if you do smoke). And get yourself a caring gp who is interested in keeping you well! Yours sounds as though he couldn't give a toss.

You're lucky to have got an early diagnosis and that your lungs are still in such good shape, so make the most of that and look after yourself

love,

FF x

Next step new doctor to go through the test results in detail, I will never put another cig in my hand again and I will never be near second hand smoke either, been off them for 18 months and counting just wish the same as everyone I jhad never had that first one, I can actually remember when I had my first one-who gave me it-what the weather was like and how worrible it tasted!!!!!ah ah ah, age 16 to age 41 and a half.

Cheers

David

Well David I must just say huge congrats for 18 months off the cigs. I know what a massive battle that is, it's a physical addiction but also a psychological one and takes some beating. WELL DONE YOU!! It's the biggest step you can take to lung improvement and personally I take my hat off to everyone who manages to stop. If only we all knew at 16 what we find out later, well we wouldn't be 16 would we? But you've done it now so the only way is up! Auntymary xx

Thanks Auntymary

I know what you mean about being 16, I have a 12 year old going on 18, I did hear him say I'm going to smoke when I'm older cause my pal does, well let me tell you there was a very heated debate for well over one hour, I never lose a debate especially when it comes to smoking,

Didn't give him a hard time over it but I will do all I can that my two boys never smoke.

Education awerness is everything and I'm a strong beleiver that everything happens for a reason, you might not realise it at the time however things do happen?

Maybe me getting Emphysima is a wake up call and a very serious learning curve for others I meet who smoke or are thinking about it.

I'm not saying I'm going to be an ati smoking hate all that smokes person but I will use the experiance I have gained through my own illness and the knowledge I have gained from people like yourself to maybe prevent other from smking or help other give up.

Cheers Auntymary

Take care

David
