Welcome emmo

Check out BLF page:

blf.org.uk/Page/Healthy-eating

You can also phone the helpline and ask for a leaflet to be posted out to you if you are resident UK. Helpline 03000 030 555, normal working week days. Information on this is included in a pulmonary rehabilitation course, a course which gives us the tools to help manage our lung condition.

Also you may want to have a look around at other peoples blogs and questions, the search box may help you find those posts of interest.

Enjoy the site. Auntymary xx

Hi Emmo.

My advice on diet.

1. Eat smaller portions

2. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables

3. Avoid processed food

4. Avoid refined foods, go for natural products

5. Don't eat late at night

6. Avoid carbonated drinks, or don't drink too much of them

7. Avoid foods with artificial colouring, flavouring and preservatives (all of these in processed foods, more often than not)

All I can think of right now

Oh yeah, and learn about anti-inflammatory properties found in herbs, like chamomile, an antiseptic, very drinkable as tea, especially before bed.

thanks all, already doing this I just wondered if there were specific things to avoid - how about dairy? Have just started pulmonary

rehab group, must say so far find it really depressing!

Think I should avoid dairy more than I do - oops. Have a probiotic each day and that seems to help energy. Water and other drinks to dilute mucus. Curry when I feel partuclarly wheezy. Think I am listening to my body more now about food and don't feel deprived as my philosophy is that a little of what you fancy will do you good, or you wouldn't want it (well, as far as food goes anyway :) Why depressing ?

Thanks Juliekkay, yes I think perhaps you are right, we should listen to our body, the reason I asked about dairy is I do feel sometimes it makes things worse.

Depressing because I had thought by joining this group and doing the 'right' things I would stop the progress of decline - they have made it very clear that this is not the case - so, a bit of a shock.

You can really slow the progression and lots of folk find lots of benefit from PR classes and exercise generally - so many positive comments about all that on this blogsite.

Maybe the people you are speaking with are more negative or do not want you to go away with the idea that there is a cure ? yes, COPD is not curable ....and you can and will do much to help you feel better and slow progress of disease. If it's the graph they are referring to, my doc told me that they really cannot predict - and am guessing that predictions are now harder as COPD is getting better managed all ways round :) Take care, have fun, and enjoy life x Julie

Thanks juliekkay, I haven't seen a graph, likewise have only been told that the progress of the desease cannot be stopped, only that the excercises will help to cope with it. I am pretty active anyway and keep very busy, sometimes too much so that I have to take some time out. Thanks for your reply anyway.
