COPD Chronic Coughs
People cough all the time, but there's a big difference between coughing and COPD. Most people cough several times a day, if only just to clear their throats. However, people with a chronic cough are coughing alot every day. There are many causes of chronic cough ranging from allergies to serious illnesses. Diagnosing and treatment for chronic cough causes is the key to providing relief for the patient.
A chronic cough in children can be alarming depending on the child's age and overall health, but in children COPD is incredibly rare. In many cases, what seems like a child chronic cough may just be allergies or a mild illness, but serious illnesses such as whooping cough are common among children. If your child has been coughing persistently for at least five days, consider visiting your doctor to get your child evaluated. A chronic cough in children isn't always serious, but the symptom should never be ignored. Most chronic coughs in children can be treated, but only with a doctor's help.
Causes of COPD in adults is generally more alarming than a chronic cough in children. That's because adults are more likely to develop serious illnesses related to COPD. Although adults may also be diagnosed with COPD, other causes of chronic coughs among adults include lung cancer, pre COPD and pneumonia. These are serious health conditions that can be fatal if not treated immediately upon detection, and chronic coughing is one of the primary symptoms of each condition. Several causes of chronic coughs in adults are not serious illnesses, but seeing your doctor just to be safe is always a smart move.
Many things can cause a chronic cough, and the most common causes of COPD are very serious. Asthma and allergies are perhaps the most common causes of these coughs, but lung cancer and copd is caused almost exclusively by exposure to pollutants such as smoke and smoking, and these conditions have multiple causes of their own. But in the event that a chronic cough is caused by something more serious, people who cough persistently for more than a week without improvement should get an opinion from their doctors. Some causes of chronic coughing cannot be undone; in other cases, coughs can be treated and symptoms can be brought to an end. The only way to know whether you'll find temporary or permanent cough relief is to see your doctor.
My husband coughs because of the scarring caused by sarcoidosis which he has had for 21 years now. His cough is productive when he uses his nebulizer twice a day but he does cough on and off throughout the day. This cough, like his disease, will never go away and he was diagnosed with COPD just over 2 years ago. He has the chronic bronchitis side of it. On the whole hubby does well but when he is ill with a chest infection, he goes right down. This hot weather is lovely but not great for someone with breathing problems due to air quality probably. Anyway, onward and upward. Stay as well as you can everyone and enjoy the sunshine if possible. xxx
