Am I the only one....

that is clearing my throat every single day from morning until night? I have an idea it could still be because I quit smoking near enough two months ago but seriously the throat clearing hasn't subsided and I am only bringing out clear but thick phlegm?

Because of the constant throat clearing it's hurting my chest and I'm wondering if it is just sending me into a nasty vicious cycle?

hi getting a sputum pot from your doctor that will test the sample for infection is the only way that i know of answering your question without doubt that anything nasty is happening which your doctor will want to be aware of at the same time as solving the wondering for you.

Good that you have stopped the cigarettes, damage can come from infection only now, continue with the best life for your lungs it will benefit the whole person.

I have been throat clearing like this for the same length of time that I quit smoking, I quit smoking on a Saturday and by Sunday I started throat clearing and it simply hasn't stopped. I was just wondering how many others throat clear every day?

I had a similar problem but mine was a bit worse and won't go into details but it thickened up and made me feel like I was choking. Anyway it was related to my nose and sinuses and a steroid nasal spray did the trick.

Yes it does seem to be something to do with the nose being as every so often I can sort of smell/taste a cold if you know what I mean lol.

Mine was essentially a problem with my sinuses and their over creation of liquid and yes I do understand about being able to taste/smell a cold. I saw an ENT specialist as they thought the sarcoidosis had affected my sinuses but it hadn't but the steroid spray did the trick. Have a word with your GP and get a sputum sample in as someone else has suggested.

I agree I really need to find out what is wrong with me as there has been no definite diagnosis of exactly what is wrong with me and emphysema was thrown at me without it being definite >.<

I agree Gordon but wouldn't this have been picked up in hospital from the x rays and C.T scans that I had? I mean they did pick up on something and I have not long ago had a bronchoscopy but nothing has been said about it.

I will have to talk to them about it, last time I went to the doctors I spoke to a nurse who checked on the computer then said "I see you have or possibly had pneumonia" and I just looked at her all dumb founded lol.

That was what the lung specialist had written on his computer and that's what the nurse could see, yet the specialist told me possible emphysema.

I have another C.T scan at the end of August and really want to get some kind of definite diagnosis of what is really wrong, in the end it could all be something simple like acid reflux.

You could/should start treatment for reflux to be on the safe side - can't do any harm? If dr won't scrip, you can use ranitidine buy it over the counter. It's the 2nd choice on prescription for those that cant take omeprazole or the like, so pretty strong stuff. If it helps the Dr will scrip it (or omeprazole..)

See if it helps., you'll need to allow a month or so, it won't cure the effects over night. And I have it too and chronic sinusitis/rhinitis.

Do let us know if you find summat.. plse.

I was interested in your post because my husband Peter (Sarcoidosis and COPD) has had throat problems for years now. He is constantly clearing his throat and now twice a day has mucoclear to help clear the nasty sticky mucous from his throat and chest. It has helped a lot but he still has to watch what he eats as he can easily choke. I think a sputum test is definitely the answer. Pete tries to get his sputum tested at times but his antibiotics every other day tend to mask any infection. Good luck to you anyway and stay well.
