Sun lotion for oxygen user?

Hi there looking for a Sun lotion for my mother inlaw as a oxygen user the Skin can react to lotion with petroleum paraffin or any oil based product .advice on a product that could be used that doesnt contain any of the above? Or what you have used if you are on oxygen?

Hi Nonny567, I’m an oxygen and BiPAP NIV user, I know when I first started using oxygen and was on it 24/7, I was told the same as you and now try and use no lotions or After Shave, even though now only use oxygen for walking and exercise I stick to same regime because my BiPAP mask is also affected by using them.

Having done a quick google search I found this Sun lotion: greenpeople.co.uk/products/... if I were you I would check with your Mother in Laws Oxygens Nurse.

Not to mention the inflammable issue 🥴. So many older folks don't realise that nightwear and sheets get impregnated with the oil based dry skin lotions and washes. Needs to be laundered at 60° (the bedding not the people).

I'm sure there's something out there that's ok for people on O2 to use as sun screen.......might her pharmacist know perhaps 🤔

I’ve never been told this. What reaction does it have on the skin. I use amber solaire but have no idea what I should be aware of.

My Mother inlaws skin is quite thin anyway but apparently the oxygen thats in the blood can react with the oil based lotins she gets sores when she has used some creams and thats what its from. ill keep you all posted with which one works for her.

I just use common Amber Solaire cream based sun tan lotion. Never had an issue in 7 years.

Think it might be a case that her skin is quite thin and the oxygen is reacting with the oils in the lotins shes tried to use allready. Cheers Pauline

Mmmm, I wonder if the pharmacist can help? Yes my skin is thin too from years of steroid based inhalers. Nothing on the skin should be reacting to the oxygen. I have never had an issue with any skin product and my oxygen use.

I have just started on ambulatory oxygen, I have been advised not to use any skin cream, aftershave etc that contains alcohol or petroleum based content. This is due to the the enhanced fire risk when using oxygen, the same applies to using alcohol based hand sanitizers. It’s the little things like don’t put alcohol based after shave on and then use a hairdryer when using oxygen as the sparks in the hairdryer’s motor could ignite the oxygen enriched alcohol fumes.

Hello! When I first started on oxygen my doctor prescribed me (unrelated skin condition) a cream that contained petroleum. When I asked her about it she told me just not to go near a naked flame. As Biker88 says, its due to the greater fire risk, so I have never worried about it much. True though that the life of certain masks can be reduced by contact with certain creams.
