Bladder Cancer Update,

Ern007 profile image
84 Replies

A most will know. Besides my COPD and heart problems I have Bladder Cancer which is Hight Grade,

Six weeks ago I had a Rigid cystoscopy to see how my last ditch treatment on BCG would go and told, would be the last time I could have that.

I had heard nothing and was 6 weeks ago Sunday. I phoned my urology cancer nurse and got a shock/surprise.

She said just got your biopsy results back, can't tell you what was in then because she does not know yet but ---

She had been told i was to have BCG treatment again (for the third times) and would I mind fitting three treatments in before Christmas.

I bit her hand off but wonder why? - I will know more when I go for first treatment, probably a week Tuesday.

Again I did not have to see consultant, this has come from the MDT.

I am gobsmacked to be honest.

The treatment must be thought worth it Ern. I hope it goes well and that you aren't feeling too unwell for Christmas at the end of it. Best wishes, Carole xx

Thank you Carole - BCG has very short lived side effects, most on the day it is administered, Better than the alternatives. x

Thank you yes, a year ago they was saying I needed a bladder removal. I may have to have Chemo but not bothered about that, or the 4 monthly cystectomy's, got used to them. When I speak with nurse, I then will be 100% as she did not have results - It's looking a lot better than yesterday, thankful for that.

I am not, to be honest, familiar with all the jargon, but you sound very happy about your news! I am pleased for you and hope all goes well xx

Ern007 in reply to leo60

Thank you.I am pleased because it done not seem urgent at the moment - it has spread and nobody seems worried; Like a year ago. I am optimistic and will update very soon when nurse tells me result of biopsies. I hope I am on BCG for life, it hurts a bit and a cystoscopy every time, but I will be happy with that. xx

Well Ern something must have worked to make them want to give the BCG another go. Hoping everything goes well for you. Take care xxxx❤️

Ern007 profile image
Ern007 in reply to sassy59

Thank you Carole - I don't know what the biopsies result was and neither did the nurse. If I am having 3 BCGs before Christmas, that will mean treatment starts a week Tuesday at the latest, and that's when I find out what the biopsies said. I will update when I know Carole, I really am puzzled xx :-)

A friend of mine had BCG injections for bladder cancer in 2003 and was told if they didn’t work they’d remove her bladder. She had quite a few injections over a long period and they worked. She used to get her bladder scraped as well. She’s a very healthy woman in her 60’s now. Good luck and they’ll work for you I’m sure

Ern007 profile image
Ern007 in reply to Yoga2011

I had the scrape 3 years ago, called a TURBT - Just an overnight stay. I was told definitely no more BCG, so came a a surprise. I was asked did I want my bladder out 18 months ago. If BCG has started to work above all the odds, then it will mean TURBTs again. Thank you for your post.. Interesting,

My husband had bladder cancer for ten years two lots of chemo many Turbts and scrapes moved to his ureter which meant more treatments. bladder removal was suggested to him, we asked Consultants senior registrar what he would recommend, he said if you were twenty/thirty years younger I would say removal as you are 70 stay as you are. It never spread outside the bladder. He also had four more types of Cancer non of them secondaries to Bladder. Good luck.

Thank you. My bladder cancer is none muscle invasive but, it's cancer it situ - That CIS makes it high grade and aggressive. Just over a year ago, they suggested bladder/lymph none removal - I thought with my heart complaints, Stage 3 kidney failure I would not have chance of survival with COPD also. They seem to have gone cool of that idea, i did refuse, I have nodules on my right lung but thus far have not grown, I have had the TURBT's a 24 hour hospital stay, the diagnostic cystoscopy home same day - I have spinals with both,, Never had Chemo except mitomycin with the first TURBT direct into bladder. I think asking "senior registrar " was sensible and I reckon he was right,

Hi Ern

Sorry, I’ve been “out of the loop” for a while but very pleased to hear you’re being offered more BCG treatments, as I seem to recall that, although it was the course of treatment you preferred to the alternative, , you thought they wouldn’t be offering it to you again. Glad there’s been a change of heart and presumably, all will be explained when you go for your first session.

I hope the treatment starts soon and wish you all the best with it. TC x

Sounds like good news! I hope all goes well for you and they fit the treatments in as planned. It would be reassuring to speak to a consultant, though, wouldn't it? I wonder if they realise how much waiting to hear results can stress a person out? Still, I suppose they're only human and probably have a lot of people all waiting to be contacted, so it's good that the nurse was able to at least start the process - even if she can't explain why!

All the best,

xx Moy

Good luck with your treatment, you sound like a very positive person.I'm playing the waiting game at the moment as was referred to cancer unit on Monday for suspected bladder cancer. Got a call from them on Wednesday and am now waiting for a CT scan and a cystocostapy. Bit concerned at the moment tbh. Just want the results

Just back from Cystoscopy and it's all clear NO bladder cancer best Christmas present ever. I want to thank you so much for your support through this worrying time and do hope that you get the BCG treatment you're hoping for. I'll be thinking of you

Ern007 profile image
Ern007 in reply to stravinsky1

Hi stravinsky1 - Great news you have no bladder cancer - I can imagine that is the best Christmas present you could have.

I have been to my GP today and she looked my last Cystoscopy (Rigid) and no tumour found, and very little abnormal cells. So the BCG has worked to a degree. she explained when finished, I would have a regular Cystoscopy and anything found zapped. Have a cracking Christmas,
