Looking at the operating technique, that seems likely. My late husband Bob had had that procedure for pleural cavity cancer, where the surgeon accessed the space between the ribs and the lungs. He had the op in 1977 and recovered well. He finally passed away in 2003.
Sometimes surgeons can now use keyhole surgery for lung operations, which has a much shorter recovery time.
