Medicalert?

Does anyone have & subscribe to Medicalert? With asthma & bronchiectasis (along with a few other things), do I need a Medicalert, or just reliance on someone reading my records, should it become necessary if I become ill? Thanks.

I don't have medicalert but I do carry an 'Oxygen alert card' and a 'Steroid emergency card'.

Not the same but on the same track. I take Rivaroxaban a blood thinner. You can get bleeds or if you are admitted to hospital, staff need to know.

I have a wristband with Rivaroxaban printed on it twice.

Asthma & bronchiectasis - It's a choice for you over medicalert - But if you are admitted to hospital, they look in your records, to find your history and medications, I know that because I have seen my medical record shared online.

If you think you would be safer joining Medicaler then go forit.

I have a medicalert and have done for many years now. I feel it gives me peace of mind. Whilst they can check records (these days checking records is easier) if very unwell I would struggle to provide any information. I like medicalert and like the options for different jewellery so I was able to choose something I would be happy to wear all the time.

If you are "very Unwell" you don't have to be able to look and report from your records - The hospital will check records held at your GP - it's called a GP Shared record. When I went to urgent care, Dr asked me could he look in records, I said yes, but had I not been fit, they would have looked anyway,.

You can un-subscribe to GP sharing but I think although it's a kind of intrusion it lets hospitals ect know your medication and care needs.

I did acknowledge that looking up records is easier these days but I like the confidence that my Medicalert gives me and I have worn a bracelet for years. Certainly it gives medics who have no access to information relevant information.

i was not trying to put you off "Medicalert" - I was just making you aware hospitals can look into your GP records if you are unwell.

Sorry I didn’t mean to snap or offend. Had some nastiness in another group and over reacted to your message. Sorry again.

No problem at all. Sorry some have been nasty to you, that is out of order on any group. Good luck.

I just wear a Talisman around my kneck with all my health problems and medication written on it. You can also get a wrist band type as well if you prefer. Hope this helps. Brian

I have a steroid card and now an Edoxoban? card for blood thinners but they are in my purse which might not be with me when needed. Until i read your post I never thought about Medicalert so might need to.

I only carry my prescriptions in my handbag, assuming that any medical person reading them would be able to work out my health problems. If they looked at my chest, they would see the scar left by my bypass op.

I have asthma and COPD and adrenal suppression. I’ve subscribed for years to medicalert. Peace of mind knowing it’s always with you when for example a handbag might not be. I always think it’d be useful in a car accident for example. Instantly tells medical services what they need to know about my steroids. Doesn’t get tatty either like the cards in my bag!

I thought the Medicalert scheme was expensive. Instead I bought a small key ring with a red cross on it which has a small 'pocket' (from Etsy) and I have written down main information on that. It hangs on the side of my bag, which I take with me when I go out. On my computer I have a health summary and my husband knows where to find it.

The information would only be needed by an emergency worker and they are trained to treat emergency symptoms, but it can be helpful for them to know things like allergies or the medication you are on. Hospitals can access your records.
