hello,

I recently got a pulmonary test done and it’s showing mild restrictive lung disease. My doctor won’t really give me any answers I want. He just says it’s not serious at this time… I have never smoked. I wanted to know does it get worse? Can I stop it from getting worse? Is it serious condition. This is the results… thank you

Hi, Trinity. I'm sorry your doctor hasn't been more helpful with you about the results. You could call the ALUK helpline on 01291 639 739, and speak to a nurse who should be able to give you more information.

When I was diagnosed with moderate COPD (which is obstructive rather than restrictive) in 2018, I took it as a wake up call to move to a more healthy lifestyle. I began to eat more healthily, walk more ( increasing my daily steps from 2500 to about 10,000), and work to improve my sleeping. I asked my GP to refer me to a Pulmonary Rehab programme, which really helped my fitness, and helped me identify and combat my overbreathing when faced with a strenuous task. I also run a weekly singing for lung health group. All these factors have improved my diagnosis to mild.

Lots of members here have made lifestyle improvement suggestions over the years, and I have tried many of these, most of which have been helpful.

So wishing you all the best, and hoping you find the answers you want.

Hi Trinity0701 I do not know much about your condition, but suggest researching it. Learning about it and finding what the future may look like. Also what you may do to help your self with it.

I wish my reading were that high, my O2 94% is normal and FEV is about 30%, however I do have diagnosed lung conditions to explain it. Some of my reduction is down to lung scarring which can be caused every time you get a chest infection, this slowly builds up resulting in a drop in lung function. My lungs show signs of TB which I don’t ever remember catching but both my parents had TB scarring, also I was hospitalised with pneumonia for over a week. Have you been referred for X-rays, etc. if not I suspect your doctor is not to concerned about it for now. Try not to worry about it, getting breathless on exertion is normal it all depends on how quickly breathing returns to normal.
