So I have bought myself a second hand paddle board with paddle ....

I have tried them before and quite enjoyed the motion of the ocean so to speak...

It's all just for fun and I'm not going in too deep just as yet ... didn't take himself along as he would have been upset he wasn't allowed in the water with me ...maybe in time he can hop on who knows ... anyways this is myself this afternoon picture taken by hubby πŸ’•

The water looks beautiful. Hope you enjoy your paddle boarding. Stanley would love it. XxxπŸ˜‚β€οΈπŸ’œπŸ’™

I know he would but he would knock me off into the water I'm sure of it cause he wouldn't own a paddle πŸ˜‚

I personally don't see the fascination with them but I hope you enjoy it. I do envy you living so close to the sea but I'd be quite content just to sit and watch it and anyone doing water sports.

Oh dear ... its a personal choice and I actually am not the best of swimmers even though I swim ... its another way of exercise for me and a good way of time alone πŸ₯°

ooo I'm envious Bb9! Well done you. It was always my ambition to get a paddle board & train my pup to sit happily on it with me. Pup is 7 now and I still haven't got oneπŸ™„ πŸ˜• am miles away from any water. My 2nd cousin had a trendy board shop in Weymouth until recently where I'd planned to go, ah well.....

Still I'm moving across country to a small city with a river AND a marina so all is not lost.

Have fun, let me know how long it takes to get the hang of it Γ—Γ—

Blackbird9 in reply to peege

I will certainly keep you posted on things . .I find it so enjoyable I managed to sit down on it and then stand again without falling in so great result....

I absolutely adore Weymouth and the sandy beach the whole town is just lovley...

So when you move make it a point to buy one and have a go at it .... I have laughed more than cried on it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You set my mind off, have spent some long time googling/hunting for a picture of ancient pacific ocean current and swell maps of a sort. Cannot find one. The outriggers of the south pacific, when hunting up other lands, had a map that looked like a square of woven banana leaf pieces. It was just that, the size, width and direction and curves, in the different woven pieces apparently showed the swell and direction of the currents, to help you navigate. Saw a picture of a modern one some years ago, wish I could find it to show you. Seeing thos ripples, you could be anywhere on the planet.

I'm at one of the local beaches just having a playtime for myself ...Wish sometimes I was somewhere else on the planet πŸ˜•

My sister is on holiday in Bali at the moment... she lives in Oz so Bali is her go to place...I could do with being with her right now 😊

Yup, it would be nice, although speaking of my southern island, only between May and October, the rest of the time is cyclone season. Sea not so nice then. A few years ago, Fiji had a big one through. They interviewed the captain of a proper ship (not a local outrigger), he was trying to make a safe sheltered area, did not make it, and in the storm felt his vessel hit the reef and get stuck, he expected to loose his ship and a lot of lives. But as the night carried on, he only took a small amount of water in, and in the morning he was still alive and the ship was still afloat. When he looked over the side, he saw that the cyclone affected sea, had carried his ship up and over the reef, he was actually aground on the side of the road round the island! He thanked God for his escape, as he could not imagine how he had missed the reef, talk about the power of the sea.

I can always see the picture, of the stern of the ship sitting on the edge of the road, just fascinating.

Enjoy bb. I had a go at paddle boarding on holiday once It takes some skill and balance. Some people take their dogs on board xx

I'm impressed by that ...its a difficult task to keep balance... no way is Stan coming with me it would be mayhem πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I was trying it out in the swimming pool. I didn’t fall off πŸ‘was so proud. I had a go at Segway when in Suffolk and I’m afraid my competitive streak kicked in as hubby said he’d catch me but he didn’t 🀣

Hello BB. I must say I am rather jealous. I would love to go into the sea and swim but I am not allowed to due to being a transplant patient. But a paddle board sounds fun. Maybe I shall get a banana boat 🍌. xx πŸ™‚πŸ‘‹

Oh my I didn't realise that you weren't allowed to go swimming... Is that just in salt water or is it any water ..πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

Oh any water the risk of picking something up is apparently too high . But I don't mind, though I miss swimming very much. xx πŸ™‚

Looks like fun!! I know what you mean when you say you don't bring Stan along . A few years ago my husband wanted to go for a swim in Lake Michigan and we had our lab along . My husband asked me to hold on to our dog as he went into the lake. Well... our dog broke loose from my grip and started crying as though he thought my husband was in some sort of trouble. He swam out to my husband and tried to get on top of him... clawing my husbands back terribly then started swimming along side my husband and then going under him!!! Guess he thought my husband was going to drown!!

Blackbird9 profile image
Blackbird9 in reply to Solily

What an incident...your hubby was definitely drowning according to your dog hence the jumping in ..They are such sensitive souls ..

You and your hubby both would have been frantic hope the wounds healed okay dogs claws can cause awful wounds ..

Stan would cause absolute mayhem to be with me and I don't want him to be stressed while I'm trying to relax a little πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thepainterswife profile image
Thepainterswife in reply to Blackbird9

Aww my dogs would be terrified if they thought I or my husband were in trouble in the water πŸ₯² however if it was up to the male we would definitely drown as there is no way he would get his feet wet ! He refuses to venture out in the lightest of showers and he definitely wouldn’t dream of walking through a puddle ! 😱 The female is braver - she has been known to walk through a very small puddle in very hot weather but I think that’s about as far as she’s prepared to go πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

Must be a wonderful sensation, almost like walking on water, except you aint. My problem would be balance. Do you have to bend your knees a little?

I haven't quite mastered the safe balance thing for long I have been off it more than on it but its going to be fun learning πŸ˜‚

I prefer something to sit on even if it might capsize and tip you in .! I had a racing dinghy for years and loved it . Never learnt to swim so always wore a lifejacket.

Blackbird9 profile image
Blackbird9 in reply to Jaybird19

Ah that's lovley to know ...I'm not wearing a jacket until I'm in deeper water this pic the water is just up over my knees so not that risky but as I get better with lots of practice I will deffo get a jacket ...you must miss sailing ⛡️

Fabulous! Paddleboarding is becoming very popular where we live. The grandchildren love it and have a board to share which they were given for Christmas. I think they also hire boards. No doubt, one day, they'll have one each. xx Moy

Well done you! That looks such fun. I would love to have a go but my balance on flat land is rubbish so can’t imagine me ever managing it. Our friend bought one it was expensive but the seam burst almost immediately. Currently getting refund then hopefully a new one so I may get a go yet. Enjoy x

Congratulations BB on trying something new. Challenging activities are good for the body and mind and very satisfying.
