Pulmonologist recommendation

Hello all you lovely people, may I ask if anyone can recommend a nice approachable private consultant pulmonologist in London or the south or southeast side of Greater London. Jan

Hi Jan, might be a bit too far out of your area but my father was treated by Dr Edward Cetti who has a private practice at Spire hospital near Gatwick. Dr Cetti is a lovely, approachable guy and was very kind towards my Dad who had dementia and wasn’t the easiest of patients!

Hi Threecats, Thank you for the recommendation. I have Googled him and he has got very good reviews. Horley is quite a drive for me but will definitely consider him if I don’t get any further recommendations that are closer to me. NB. My nephew lives in Horley so I could also use the opportunity to visit him 😉

I cannot reccomend mine at St George's SW17. I found him nasty, rude, dismissive, patronising. ......... he may have retired by now and the Pulmonary department may have moved out of the shedlike building it was previously in. I believe there are good people at the Royal Brompton in Chelsea/Kensington you could look up. P

Actually I checked St George's school of medicine and he's not listed anymore. Gosh he was vile. My GP practice encouraged me to put in a complaint about him in but in 2013 I was too poorly with no extra energy to spare.Anyway, you've got some recommendations so well done.

What Millyboo says, Royal Brompton team are brilliant. I travel down from Birmingham to see them.Depending on your condition they will have team of doctors in that specialism. Mine is Dr Felix Chua. Couldn’t rate him and the team their high enough.

Hi, can you guide me. I just had an appointment with Dr Chau and I found him rude, arrogant, unhelpful (as did my friend who attended with me). I didn't get clear answers, guidance, nor an understanding of why Prednisone was necessary at this point given my hypersensitivity pneumonitis had improved dramatically on removing the triggers. I am 55 year old lady with positive upbeat attitude. I am reluctant to be treated by him so if you can tell me why he is "ok" it might help. At a loss here. Many thanks.

Hi Saxy, really sorry to hear about your experience. I have to say I am shocked. I have seen him on several occasions and he has always been really friendly and professional as have any of the other consultants and nurses there. I have been going there for 4 years now. Not once have I experienced any of this, apart from the parking warden outside (nothing to with the hospital lol)

Hi Saxy, I saw Felix Chua privately about two months’ ago and he was friendly and nice…I certainly felt at ease with him. I went private because my GP has never referred me to a specialist and I decided to instigate things myself. Dr Chua has referred me to the NHS team at St George’s Hospital which is exactly what I wanted. Sorry you did not have a good experience…maybe he was having a bad day. If you don’t want to see him on a regular basis maybe you could try the team at St George’s?

PS. He prescribed me a course of Prednisolone which some people swear by but which never seems to do a thing for me. He was also very surprised that my GP has never referred me to a specialist.

Before I got to the Brompton on the NHS I saw Dr O’Connor privately at the Cromwell. It was a very efficient and good experience and I would highly recommend.

Hello Shortlungs, thanks for your thoughtfulness. I’ve been working quite long hours this week unfortunately so didn’t have a spare moment but on Monday I intend to make an appointment to see someone privately and will let you know how I get on. I hope you are ok, I read in another of your posts that you have emphysema. That sounds worse than COPD although I’m not sure what the difference is. I’ve known two people who’ve had that and they were both around 50 at the time and both had to be hospitalised for a couple of weeks. They both gave up smoking at the time of their respective hospital admissions. I wish I’d never smoked but it’s a bit late now! Hope you enjoy this lovely sunny Sunday afternoon, Jan

Thank you for replying emphysema is under the umbrella of copd got told copd from GP but kept pushing for tests got a ct scan which showed emphysema Lung doctor told me to stop smoking and I would be ok struggles with that but have been stopped for 16 months good luck
