Hello , my dad has COPD and only 30 per cent lung capacity he is finding it very hard to breathe and his just coming out of hospital for chest infection, is there any breathing equipment I can get or does anyone know how we can get him assessed for his needs. We don’t know what we are doing and feel we are not getting enough support or help with his condition. Please if anyone can give me some ideas or who to get in touch with I would be very grateful

Hi and welcome. I'm not sure what you mean by breathing equipment but your first port of call for support and help with your dad's COPD should be his GP. I would have thought that he had medication, ie inhalers, to help too. He may also have been clinically fit for discharge but still need time to fully recover from the effects of the infection.

Get in touch with his GP and ask for advice , I think that’s your best bet .

If you need immediate help ring 111

Also this charity ….new name from yesterday ALUK …have a helpline for UK residents open during the working week.

New number 0300 222 5800

I hope I got it right .

Take care .

Hello I personally would ask your surgery about Respiratory clinic. That specialises in lung conditions and they will help him more and ask about Pulmonary rehabilitation course if he hasn't been on this course to help him understand and manage his condition better. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Hope he feels better soon. Brian

You should contact Adult Social Care so that your dad can be assessed for any extra care he needs at home. Age UK will also have some good advice in the first instance. All best wishes and good luck going forward.
