Anyone else had this - blocked nose on oxygen 24-7

I am finding that my nose is completely blocked and have also realised that it is impeding the flow of oxygen through my nose via the cannulae. I have tried to get masks , but the Respirotory nurse said that there are so many , she doesn’t know which ones are compatible with my concentrater, she has spoken to Air Liquid , but still nothing , intend to chase again on Monday . This now brings me to the worrying question , I do get nosebleeds because of the high levels of oxygen when I am active , this creates scabs , I usually blow them out , but the nurse told me to take the cannula out , as I could get pressure sore in the nose. It’s easier said than done as my levels drop to the 70s with the cannula out. Had a drama in the early hours of this morning relating to this , where I woke up at 3-45am to find I was on 71 , this happened 8 times and thought I am going to have to call an ambulance, but at 6.30am I realised the problem was my blocked nose , and it all settled as soon as I unblocked it . Be interested to see if others have had this and what was the remedy ?? Apologies for the long post.

I get this also, so a lot of the time I'm breathing through mouth and not getting oxygen. There are lots of masks you can use. I'm sure if you rang air liquid yourself they could deliver what you need.

Thanks for your reply . Have tried calling Air Liquid but they say it has to be added to your prescription by the Nurse , the Nurse is calling tomorrow, so will take it up with them.

I use neilmed naso gel for dry noses i get it from boots it helps to keep your nose from getting to dry and crusty, i also use aloe vera gel it helps with the soreness. I am on 12 litres on movement and i find this helps it's not a cure but makes my nose less blocked i hope this is of help.

I'm sorry you are struggling with blocked nasal passages. I can't help as I don't have this problem, at the moment. Does sound as though a small mask would be beneficial and save you sore nose and your sats dropping due to lack of oxygen. The previous post, aunttomany, sounds as though the product could be helpful. Wishing you best of luck Beachballs xxx😊

Try Sterimar you can buy it from any chemist and Amazon. It,s a nasal salt saline and it,s brilliant for unblocking noses. I use the orange congestion one and it really helps

My wife is on 24/7 oxygen and uses:

1. Ayr brand Saline Nasal Gel; and,

2. (another vote for) Sterimar Hypertonic Nasal Spray ("Orange" for Decongestion)

3. When she had a bit of an illness recently that required 8L of oxygen (up from 3L), we added a humidifier bottle to her concentrator. This was the first time she had ever used a humidifier bottle and it helped. She is back down to 4L, but we have kept the humidifier bottle going. You probably already knows this, but just in case, it requires distilled water and needs to be changed out regularly—so a bit more work—but she thinks it helps particularly because it is wintertime here and our home is much drier this time of year.

We are in the States, and found items #1 and #2 above at Amazon. The humidifier bottle (and instruction in its use) came from our oxygen concentrator provider. Our grocery stores carry 1-gallon jugs of distilled water, very inexpensive (for now anyway).

Hope this helps. God bless you.
