lung problems and LPR developing later age?

I have copd/asthma ? and just discovered have LPR. Im finding taking Gaviscon advance make me feel wheezy then use salbutamol to relieve it. Anyone else?

PPI's are normaly the best treatment for LPR as they are for most reflux conditions but you may need to be refered to a gastro consutant to get them prescribed for you?I take PPI's ( omeprazole)for silent reflux and Barretts esophagus,probably caused by a hiatal hernia.

thanks Troilus have started on Omeprazole and made lifestyle changes like raising head of bed. Sitting up 3 hrs after eating. (I used to lay down.) Also eliminated chocolate, hot spices, citrus fruits and tomatoes, fatty/fried food and alcohol. Hard but worth it. The LPR has given me years of asthma and bronchitis as I didn"t know about LPR

Like a number of people on here, I take omeprazole to reduce the amount of acid the stomach produces. I still occasionally have silent acid reflux creeping up the oesophagus during the night. The next day I have a very wheezy chest. However, most of the time, omeprazole keeps the acid under control. One possible side effect of omeprazole is to increase the risk of osteoporosis, for which I am given additional calcium. I had a bone scan and my bones were sound. Just something to bare in mind.

Just to add for those taking levothyroxine (after looking up what LPR stands for (I still don't know but get the gist))

Lanzoprazole can interfere with the hypothyroid drug Levothyroxine , possibly preventing absorption. Dunno if it's the same for Omeprazole

thanks peege. LPR = larygopharyngeal reflux. Pepsin leaks from stomach up into oeosophagus then into larynx/pharynx causing chronic cough, damage to trachea upper airways and also causes associated nasal/sinus/ear congestion .asthma and bronchitis. Also called silent reflux. No heartburn to warn of danger.
