02 and teeth

furthr to my post a week or so ago, Did not see Dentist. Off sick. So a friend and I trolled the net and found someone who claimed to be a hygeneist. (say claimed as unable to verify) stated 02 can and does affect teeth and gums., When wearing a mask if not on properly the patient opens mouth to draw in the 02. As we age, our gums shrink a little and if we have had crowns or caps fitted, there is a gap between the gum and tooth and food particles get between, eventually gettig the tooth to snap. Said not uncommon but not rare in other words, She went on how to clean teeth etc and to use baby's first toothbrush or -6-8 one, So - am giving it a go. So far okay.

hope all okay. lousey weather today Peacehaven so far, heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. If you have to go out, be prepared well and take care, Cheers all. Spooks36

Good luck with the toothbrush spooks. Hope it continues to work well for you. We need to hold onto our teeth for as long as possible. Weather here ok so far but Pete was watching lightning over Brighton this morning. Thank goodness for the South Downs.

Take care xxx🤗

My dentist said that mouth breathing (which I often do) can increase the risk of tooth decay due to it causing a dry mouth. I have had gum recession for many years and had 3 teeth partially break. Hope you go on ok with yours.

Thanks for the explanation , my gums are slightly receding and my teeth are breaking at the gum line . Lost my dental bridge as well. My bones are thinning too , due to medications .

I shall try a soft toothbrush as well as my electric one .

My OH was told to eat more Vitamin C foods …..fresh veg ….to help with his gum problems .

I have had such trouble with my teeth I got really down with the pain and not being able to enjoy my food. I have had them all taken out and replaced with a top denture and implants on the bottom. it is a painful and long process too and not something I would now recommend to somebody my age 71. Nevertheless as I am healing up I am already feeling the benefits. I wish I had done it 20 years ago.

I read somewhere that acid reflux can cause tooth decay so something to look out for. Also genetics can play a big part You can be prescribed Duraphat a highly fluorided toothpaste, although it did slow down my decay a bit it wasn't enough because it had gone too far. It is worth a bash but 13 quid a tube?

I got Duraphat free from my dentist on prescription and he prescibed 3 boxes. I too wish I had gone for implants when younger instead of crown and caps. I am 69 and dont regret having implants. I have 5 now and will replace my teeth when they go. I have also invested in a water flosser and its the best thing I have done, it keeps my teeth and gums super clean whuch they have to be if you have implants x

How much are the implants Izb? I have thought of having them as my teeth look like a halloween witch.

Looking after your teeth is so important and we dont realise this until we get older. I have my teeth cleaned regular and have a water flosser to make sure no food particles and trapped between teeth overnight x
