Appointment at hospital

Hi Lung Buddies, got a letter with an appointment for Papworth on 11th November. All the pallava of my recet hospital stay, Papworth say they haven't been told anything about it. Surely hospitals share patients info? I have to go as an out-patient to have tests and xray. Hopefully they won't take my oxygen away! I'm doing my usual 'panic' thing about the walk test already lol. How do others manage it? Hugs my lovelies, Penny xxxxx

HI Penny. I always find that the anticipation and pre appointment anxiety/panic is always worse than the actual event. I hope that you will find it to be the same for you. As for the walk test, do your best but remember to go at what is a slow comfortable pace for you.Good luck and let us know how you get on. Carole xx

Best of luck with the appointment. Try not to worry about the walk test- it's only for assessment, same as when the optician tests your eyes. Are you worried that it's going to say that you've got worse; that's what would worry me.💓💓💓xxx

Wishing you all the best for your appointment. I always worry about everything so I won’t tell you not too, even though worrying is pointless and helps nothing. I guess we can’t help worrying. I try not to and sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. Hospitals don’t talk to each other and it seems different departments within a hospital don’t always communicate. 🤷‍♀️

Good luck for your appointment - they are usually nowhere near as bad as we believe they will be - but most of us do still get anxious about them. If you need oxygen for your walk test they won't take it away x

I’m treated at addenbrookes (part of the same trust as Papworth) and they can’t even communicate with my GP properly as it a different health trust. Please don’t worry Papworth has an excellent reputation and I’m sure they will look after you very well. 🤗🤗

Like you I thought Hospitals shared records but when I recently had a telephone appointment with a Cardiologist, my breathing issues are caused by my heart, I informed him that I had breathing tests done at Papworth and he asked my permission to request my records from Papworth which surprised me as I was under the impression that our records were accessible between hospitals. As for the walking test I usually just do the best that I can, 3 years ago I could just about keep up the pace with the beep but the last time I just couldn't. Try not to panic and just do the best you are comfortable with. xx

You have to bear in mind that the walk test is t actually a test,it’s just to Assess what you can do.if you struggle with the walk test,just say so.

I’m a worrier,but try to be chilled. Imtrying to occupy myself I have cataract surgery tomorrow. I’ve to be there for 12.30.

Then it depends where I am on the list.

I’ve resigned myself to being last on the list.as I struggle to read a book I .won’t be able to distract myself.

Good luck for tomorrow . I didn't f nd it a problem at all and when you open your eyes after a night s sleep it is amazing . The colours over whelmed me . And if the other eye need's doing too then swap from eye to eye. And back again,. Magic. Nothing is the colour you had thought it was. My new brown fleece was purple!

Last year,I was trying to claim my black coat from a cloak room.

Discovered it was black.

It's like using a yellow filter on a camera . Shows up clouds in sky . So I used to choose I wanted a blue sky or a sky with some clouds. I think the cataract must absorb the some colour or just add yellow, ? . But mine were really bad cataracts and lost my stereo vision somehow .

I have been a bronchiectasis patient at the Lung Defence Papworth since 2003, I also attend the sleep centre and had an ablation there approx eight years ago, no problems there. Hospitals do not routinely share information. NHS tried a system where your record is centralized but, it failed miserably, costing them billions. Papworth is very good at what they do, why are you worried about your walking test? The idea is to assess your needs, so just do what you do, they will study the figures, Papworth always have team meetings and, they will put their heads together to get the best outcome for you, I wish you the very best.

PS I am booked in as an inpatient for a two-week course of IV antibiotics, but do not know when they will have a bed.

Thankyou wheezybronch, they are a very good hospital I know. I have a problem with not only breathlessness but sky-rocketing heart-rate which was picked up by my local hospital last month and my local respiratory team. Good luck with your appointment x

I had a known problem with fast heart rate, a DX of SVT, then AF combined with a pulse of 308bpm, worrying and stressing will definitely not help a fast heart rate and, may be the cause of it. Try to do some deep breathing or some relaxation technique. I know it is easy to say not to worry, but it is quite hard not to, keep smiling, I might even see you there!

When I used to do my 6 minute walk test at Harefield the physio walked with me carrying my oxygen 😊🐶Jax
