I have been hospitalised twice in the past year with severe pneumonia. I have been prescribed a trimbow inhaler. However after a bit of investigation it appears that this inhaler can cause pneumonia. Should i be using this?

Hi and welcome. As I understand it, inhalers containing a steroid can increase the risk of developing pneumonia rather than cause it. Predcribers usually consider the risks versus the benefits of a medication but your query would be best discussed with your doctor or nurse.

Hi CDPO16. Thanks for such a quick reply. This is the first forum I have ever joined and I’m glad I did. I was discharged from hospital yesterday and the inhaler was prescribed by doctor there. I’ll call my own doctor on Monday and post his response. Thanks again.😀

You need to look after yourself, pneumonia really takes it out of you.as CDP016 says, there are benefits and risks to most. Drugs.Contacting your Dr is a good idea.I hope you feel better soon x

Hi, it can take quite a time to recover completely from pneumonia, do be good to yourself. I had it several times before my respiratory nurse gave me the pneumonia vaccination, I've not had it since so would advise requesting it for extra protection - along with flu jab of course. Get well soon and welcome to the British Lung Foundation patient's forum 🙂

Hello and welcome to the site, I use Trimbow but when I have my COPD review on the 9th November Im going to ask if there is a different one I can have. I been on Trbow since it fist came out it worked great until recently and now it's not making much difference, but I didn't know it could cause pneumonia so thank you for sharing this information. Have a lovely day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx

Hi guys. Thanks so much for all your replies 😀. Always stayed away from the internet due to all the lies spilled on it! But within a few hours I feel part of a family 😊. And it’s great to hear other peoples experience and reassuring. I’m trying my best to rest but unfortunately I’m a self employed decorator and have never relied on the state. But think I’ve got a big decision to make!(sorry blethering on). Will post response from doctor hopefully tomorrow. Thanks again. Tjpk

Glad that you feel that joining us has helped. Difficult time for you with regard to work but I would definitely consider applying for benefit if you are likely to be unable to work for sometime. You aren't blethering on at all.

It may be best to do a new post after your consult with your GP if you want to be sure forum members see it. Hope you get reassurance regarding the inhaler.

Hi, welcome to the forum, we are quite a friendly lot.

With all drugs there are some degree of risk, most quite small... The risk from steroids from inhalers compared to oral steroids is quite small.. most of us on here take oral steroids as they are necessary. A word with you GP I am sure would put your mind at rest....
