I’m not medically qualified, but my understanding is there is no therapeutic benefit from this kind of device for restrictive conditions such as IPF: it’s a form of oscillating positive expiratory pressure (OPEP) device. OPEP devices are proven beneficial for those with productive, obstructive lung conditions such as bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, and some forms of COPD. There are several different ones available on the NHS where appropriate to someone’s diagnosis, so paying for one should be unnecessary to those they would help; the air physio is not currently on the approved list under the NHS, and even where it might be appropriate, it does have some distinct limitations over the other devices the NHS do endorse.

The company spend a fortune promoting this device. Adverts appear everywhere promoting it. It’s grossly overpriced for what it is. These devices have been available for at least 25 years so there not unique to Airphysio I bought one for £6 in 1995 a flutter valve.I find Carbosisteine far more beneficial.

Don’t get me started. I have so many issues with the companies manufacturing and promoting these devices and there are more and more of them emerging all the time. All of the NHS endorsed physio kit - flutter, acapella, bog standard pep mask, aerobika etc. - all have numerous benefits over the air physio. Not least around the advice and guidance on who they’re suitable for and how to use them safely, including the need to clean and *sterilise* them appropriately, and that they have a use life as a result. It will hold benefit for some people purchasing privately, but the marketing tactics involved are utterly shameful. Entirely profit driven.
