Prednisone dosage

I'm new and an American living in Spain. I have the following Asbestosis, Pulmatory Fibrosis, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis. I have a terrible cough and excess mucus day and night can hardly sleep. I've tried to get several doctors to give me prednisone, but they refuse. Medical care in Spain is lacking. I can buy it at a pharmacy with no prescription. I need to get the inflammation knocked down in my bronchial tubes. What dosage and how long should I take a course of it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

What dose have you used in the past? It is hard to decide what to do. We aren't medical professionals.

Nobody on the forum is medically qualified to advise you on the dosage of any medication let alone pred. Sorry. X

Thanks for the info. All drugs except narcotics and antibiotics are over the counter in Spain.

I wouldn't advise self medicating with pred without medical supervision. I was surprised to read that you can buy it without prescription. Perhaps you can discuss with your doctor other medications to help ease the mucous and cough without resorting to oral steroids.

We used to live in Spain and my husband has severe asthma & had a lobectomy in 2012 after a cancer diagnosis. We always found the Spanish Health service to be excellent. My husband was always prescribed steroids & antibiotics after a visit to Urgencias.Have you not been referred to a consultant?.

Do you have a resperologist? I would advise getting one. Spanish DR's I am sure very familiar with the use of prednisone. What was their reason for not prescribing it to you? They should have told you.
