The government hopes to prioritise “innovative and responsible uses of data”, a spokesperson said, so that it can “boost growth, especially for startups and small firms," speed up scientific discoveries??? and improve public services???”.

This is really concerning news, okay it might get rid of those consent pop-ups, but what this really means is that cookies and stealth tracking will be used without any consent at all. We will no doubt be getting advertising pop-ups again instead, remember those? They could even appear on your desktop without your browser running at the time!
