New diagnosis

I’m lying awake at 1-40 am due a course of steroids, asthma playing up. So thought I’d write about a new diagnosis of osteoporosis I received 2 weeks ago. It’s in my hip and lumber spine and it means medication. At least my bronch seems settled at the moment.

So goodnight or I should say good morning. See if sleep will come.🤞

Hope you managed to fall asleep... it’s not very nice lying awake In the wee small hours , mind on overtime. Hope you get your steroids soon , and your new medication will hopefully kick in also , that will reduce pain for you 🌹

Sorry to hear about your new diagnosis. I hope you get the proper treatment soon. Those steroids have a lot to answer for.

Morning I sympathise I have also just started another course of steroid treatment, I stay off them as much as possible because of the side effects they cause but know I’ll feel like a human who can function nearly normally once they kick in.

The sleepless nights are a pain but I try thinking positively while lying awake about lovely walks I’ll do in the next few weeks or the increased breath I’ll have to sort jobs in the house out that have slipped when I’m breathless.

So far I’ve escaped a diagnosis of thinning bones but hope & pray your new meds will help soon, medicine has come so far over the years let’s hope you’ll benefit soon.

I’ll think of you while lying awake tonight 🥰

So sorry to hear this Elaiworthy, same thing happened to me 2 years in after the emphysema diagnosis. Hope you have also been prescibed Calcium and D3 its so important as is diet and exercise.

Do ask for a vitamin D blood test to determine if you are deficient in that area.

Also ask your rheumy consultant if your OP will be supported by Hormonal therapy, some are and others not, its a far less aggressive medication than the bisphosphenates.

There is a helpline to contact: theros.org.uk/

and also the HU community for Bone Health:

The oral steroids do have a tendencies to interfere with sleep patterns, taking them early in the morning with breakfast is important.

So glad your bronch is settled. I hope soon your asthma issue will stabilise.

Best Wishes BK

Im on Adcal D3 and Alendronic Acid, the latter causing lots of side effects and some from the Adcal which I’m told may subside after a while. I’ve been taking a maintainance dose of vitamin d as I previously had low vit d and needed high dose then.

One more day of steroids then some sleep may help.
