What kind of problem have you got

I think that many of us are finding the same problem. Have you been able to keep pottering about in and around your home? Lack of something to do often leads to sitting too much but trying to maintain some level of exercise has perhaps been even more important over the last 18 months but motivating oneself isn't always easy.

Check out your footwear. Oh gosh I feel your pain -sore legs was a biggie for me post lockdown- my poor ankles still suffering today I get as far as 4000 step and struggle on some days to do much more. I blame wearing unsupportive slippers for most of the day while I was shielding end March - July 2020. Those slippers are now in the bin. The worst for me was coming down the stairs in the morning- 😖 the ankles just not wanting to flex. For walking, I now make sure I wear appropriate footwear such as trainers or walking boots. Just take your time listen to your body and put one foot in front of the other -one step at a time. Gradually build up but remember to rest if you’ve over exerted yourself.

I was an Occupational Therapist and worked for many years with Physiotherapists. They have many handouts of graded exercises, from those to start off someone who has been bed bound for a time, all the way up to athletes. Most can be started as bed exercises, or done from sitting to strengthen specific groups of muscles, then on and upwards. I have not "googled" but I should imagine that the physiotherapy web site will have a link. or you can ask your GP to refer you for assessment, a one off look see with recommendations. I think the latter would be the best, but I would. To start with I find (I have been housebound for 3 years) that just increasing what I do round the home is useful, with bribes ( my favourite chocolate bar) I can increase my distance and stamina, whilst waiting to be strong enough to do more specific work.

Hi if you have access to the Internet YouTube has lots of videos of exercises including seated ones that you can use start gently with say 5 minutes. You don't have to be Joe Wicks. Morning Live on BBC1 show exercises at the end of their programme including how to do them seated. I agree with the comment about slippers. I wear shoes indoors and have done through out lockdown as I find them much safer. Even walking up and down the hall or room s in your home will help. Good luck.

When I had a spell in hospital last year I came home barely mobile. I too began by walking the length of my hallway with the aid of a frame and was slowly able to increase how long I could do it for.

I have same problem. All we can do really is try to improve them gradually and gently. Gentle exercises sound the best solution.

The YouTube video Sittgympa med Roger Westin is very good for seated exercises. You do not need to understand what he says, just make sure you only do what is comfortable, stop and wait for the next exercise, if you find it too demanding. Oh, and the word ‘bra’ means good or fine in Swedish.
