Restrictions on the sale of coal, wet wood and manufactured solid fuels that can be burned in the home have come into force in England as the government attempts to cut air pollution.
Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation’s senior policy and projects manager, Harriet Edwards, said the restrictions could save the lives of millions with chronic lung conditions.
“It’s vital that we tackle all of these sources of air pollution and raise awareness about the dangers of air pollutants so people can make the best choices for their own health as well as the health of others around them,” she said.
Not nearly enough, with so far to go, we are now entering burning season for garden and allotment bonfires, burning wet vegetation and rubbish. Nothing worse than having to close your windows against clouds of thick, acrid smoke on a hot and humid day.
Good and now we need bonfires to be banned, They smoulder if garden rubbish but lots of homes being done up over time at home and then even more hazard with painted wood s and with other coatings being burnt too.
I agree and I wish oil heating would be banned and diesel as they are much more disgusting to city dwellers, but there money in it isn’t there so like Americans we will pollute away. Just the stink from a neighbors oil heating is disgusting in other people’s gardens, at least I can dodge the odd bonfire . Ban oil heating etc too 👍🏻👍🏻
I've always said that if smokers can smoke without affecting me in any shape or form, let them get on with it. Same with garden fires.However,this seems to be an impossibility so they need to be stopped.Affecting other people's health is not OK!!
I'm a member of a couple of diy sites and when I see posts about fire pits, chimneas etc I have commented about this new law and being respectful of neighbours. I am now finding more things affect my chest than before.
