Might not be asthma

Hi, new here. I’m seeking some ideas here.

I’ve been treated for asthma for over 20 years. I’ve had new inhalers recently but resorted to ones I’ve been taking for some time. In December I became unwell. My go gave me prednisone for a week. That did nothing. He diagnosed a virus (not covid). Still struggling with breathing over 3 months later. Some of my symptoms, breathless, dizzy, muggy, bad cough, high heart rate, lowish oxygen, chest pains and so on, have been relieved after six vit b12 shots but still struggling with chest discomfort and breathlessness. Chest x-ray clear. Now gp not sure it’s asthma. I have at last got an appt for a lung function test. What tests are they likely to do?

Hello Weavercov,

I am sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your condition and I do hope you find out what is causing them.

Our information on lung function tests may be useful so you can get an idea of what you may be asked to do:-

blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

You must call your GP, 111 or 999 in an emergency if your symptoms worsen or you become more unwell.

I hope this helps but if you need to speak to us, please call the helpline on 03000 030 555.

Thank you and take care,

Marie (Healthcare Adviser)
