I need small help

I need small help. I think I have problems with walking. Do you have? I thought that is anxiety. Now I dont know how will I walk. Do I need a wheelchair? Before was no wheelchairs and people had to walk. I smoked 20 years.

Reading your previous posts it seems you are very anxious about not being able to walk . The advice for people suffering from copd is to keep moving , keep active . Obviously distance is an issue but my husband manages to keep on walking using portable oxygen when necessary and providing he takes frequent breaks . He is in his 70’s and diagnosed 16 years ago . If you really struggle build your distance gradually- walking strengthens the lungs 😊

Thank you very much for reply. I think it depends what is the couse of copd and what damage is done. Yes its good to walk it helps. For me is important to understand what I can do and what no. And to understand it is more anxiety how I feel now. Little bit scared about the future will I spend my years in bed.. I sometimes think that why to use oxygen when is plenty of oxygen around.

Try not to think of the things you can’t do, and don’t let anxiety stop you from trying to do things that you would normally have a go at. If possible talk to your doctor about your fears. Give everything you think about wanting to do and have a go at it. Think about now and don’t anticipate something which might never happen. Good luck x

Staying in bed is the last think the professionals would recommend ! Some years ago When my husband had a very bad spell he didn’t get dressed for weeks , when the respiratory nurse came to see him she told him to get dressed immediately !! even if it took him all morning to do it ! Keeping active , hard though it may be, is the key to keeping going and having some quality of life . I don’t really think the cause of copd is relevant if you have it the important thing is learning to manage it so you can enjoy the future instead of worrying about it. Talk to your Gp , respiratory team or consultant about your anxieties so they can put your mind at rest . Yes there is plenty oxygen in the air but copd suffers struggle to breathe it in hence the need for something that helps that process, it’s just another aid to living a good life Btw my husband has severe emphysema- about as bad as it gets at times but he still looks forward even at 73 , he ll never run a marathon but then he never could 😂

It sometimes takes time to convince your relatives you are really ill- your sister is not the only one. Follow the good advice thepainter's wife and Melnel have given you, try to walk a little at a time every day and don't give up. You still ought to be active at 80 with a very little bit of luck.

Sometimes it helps when you can join pulmonary rehabilitation, talk with your GP about it, you find nice people within the group who suffer the same like you and it's nice to talk to someone, I guess next month will be getting started again to meet, I hope. It's always worth the effort. I do struggle a lot with doing little things but I am not giving up, I just take a break and get on with it the best I can. You take care and stay safe. Hopefully your GP can help you, but if you don't talk about it, nothing will change. 🍀🍀🍀
