My rheumatologist has started me on Azathioprine to dampen down my immune system as I have an autoimmune condition which has caused lung inflammation.

My respiratory consultant referred me to rheumatologist following ct scan and PFTs. Does anyone else have experience of this condition and treatment

Sorry susannixon, cant advise you on this. I have rheumatoid arthritis and bronchiectasis. I am at the moment on baricitinib combined with methotrexate. I suffer with dry eye but havent found anything to help with this, the drops just dont seem to work, so I have constant watery eyes. I am sure someone will reply to your query as there are alot of people on here with r.a.. wish you all the best x

Hi susannixixon.

I don’t know about your particular condition but I was on azathioprine for an autoimmune disease too. Like I said in a another post, my hair fell out more easily and for some reason some stronger drugs affect my mental health really badly. As it happens I got referred for Rituximab infusions instead, so no longer take aza...mainly because I can’t tolerate the messed up mental health side...as in aza& steroids give me suicidal depression. However I think I’m probably a rarity with that reaction to certain drugs, so really don’t be alarmed!!! Just be aware of side effects and tell your team if there’s anything that comes up.

Like I said, the doctor would have prescribed it because they think it will help you more, against the possibility of side effects. Like all meds...we just need to be aware in any changes. And as some of the others said, they’ve taken it for years with no problems!

Hope you get on well!
