pillows

I wake up in the mornings with a very chesty cough which I know has been made worse by overnight mucus forming. I can feel it slipping down by throat a lot when lying down. I am now wondering whether a wedge pillow might help. Have any of you tried one ?

Yes I found with the wedge I kept slipping down it. What I am currently doing is 2 pillow and a neck hook which helps keep the upper body slightly more elevated. Some times if sleeping through the day I might add the V shaped pillow on top of that.

Perhaps just start with an extra pillow and go from there. Good Luck

Hubby's being reading reviews and has now ordered me one so waiting for it to arrive from Amazon. Fi gets crossed it works fit and healthy(sort of). Just this mucus which gets stuck in my throat so annoying. Tried a flutter machine which didnt work so hopefully wedge pillows might work.

I use a wedge pillow and find it extremely helpful. It can take some time to get used to it. Initially kept rolling off it! Lol. But after a week was using it with no issues and now wouldn’t be without it.

I find sorting my pillows out a bit of a dogs breakfast.

I could do with 3- 3 1/2 pillows,,but that makes the athritis pain in my neck off.

So ,I compromise,I ha e a side s.leper,which provides a firm base,then an ordinary pillow.

Then sometimes I put an extra pillow. UnDer the side of the other pillows.

Sometimes I roll my dressing gown up and use that.

In my experience there is no easy answer.its a constant readjustment process..

If you find the wedge pillow solves your problem, please could you let me know.

Tak care.

I bought a wedge pillow but didn’t get on at all well with it, mainly because I found it too hard even with other pillows on top. Someone suggested putting the pillow under the mattress but my bed is kind of wedged (no pun intended) in a narrow part of the room and that makes it impossible for me to lift the mattress. But it’s worth trying as some people find it really helpful. I just use lots of pillows. To steal Oshgosh’s phrase, it’s a bit of a dog’s breakfast, I’ve never found a great solution, sometimes the pillows all slide down or bunch up, or I slide down the pillows, but it’s definitely better than nothing. I hope find something that works for you.

I use a wedge pillow. It took a while to find what suited me. I started with lots of normal pillows, then tried a v-pillow. I then bought my first wedge pillow but the slope wasn’t steep enough so I now have a steeper wedge pillow and some beanbag type cushions that manages to reduce my sleeping problems. I have to get everything just right and my my husband laughs at me saying am I building a wall but I have finally got there and although some mornings I do wake up snotty I definitely sleep better.

Good luck with your quest to find the perfect sleeping companion.

I have bronchiectasis with sinusitis to go with it and it is the muck running down the back of my throat that makes me cough at night. I have tried several medications for this but nothing seems to work.

I have recently been prescribed an Aerobika which really helps me bring the gunk up. Magic

Wonder if one would help you. Alberta

I don't know what that is but I will look it up. Thanks for the advice.

An Aerobika is a gadget you do breathing exercises with to help bring up sputum. We are lucky to have a pulmonary rehab team in this area and one of the nurses suggested it.

As well as this good advice on special pillows, have you tried using extra pillow cases that stop dust mite allergies etc?

I used to wake with a blocked nose but since using these things, I have not had a problem.

No, I haven't but perhaps ought to think about it now. I don't suffer with a blocked nose, just extra coughing brought on by post nasal drip. Even with two pillows I can feel myself swallowing it and, of course, the mucus makes me cough during the night and as soon as I get up in the morning. Sometimes, I feel I am never going to stop and find it very tiring. Thank you for your advice.
