Hello Bennet, 👋

I'm sorry to read you aren't doing so well. May I ask , you said your GP sent someone to "look at your blood" does that mean you had a blood test? What kind of blood test was it? Did they take it from your wrist? Or ear? Or arm? And you said then nothing. Does that mean the results were okay? Or they have not contacted you?

I don't think we can tell you if you have CO2 retention that really requires the proper testing. But some of the symptoms are headache , as you said, sleepiness, an inability to concentrate, feeling drowsy, confused, palpations, swollen hands and/ or feet , feeling down and sometimes muscular twitching. Some people feel faint. You won't necessarily experience all of these.

As for your oxygen it's really hard to say. I cannot give you advice on that. Only your doctor can. I think the best thing is to ask for an appointment with the doctor that prescribed you the oxygen. Even a phone appointment would be better than nothing. I really hope things improve very soon.

Very best wishes,

Cas xx ⛱️☀️

I'm sorry to hear they did not do your blood gases. Could you ring your doctor and explain your situation since they have not taken to initiative to contact you. xx

Hi Benney123 , when you went to A and E did they take your blood and test for co2 retention?

The A & E Dr should not have discharged you without a proper blood gas test. Call your GP on Monday and tell him they did not do the scan he/ she requested and they did not do any blood tests either. If your headache gets worse over the weekend then call 111 for advice. Hope you can get some help to sort this out.

Hi benney123, if you have been put oxygen 15 hours a day you must be under a respiratory specialist, you should contact them rather than your GP. When you went to A&E and they suspected you were suffering from CO2 retention, they should have done an arterial blood gas test, this is normally done by drawing blood from the artery in your wrist, not via a normal blood test taken from your arm. Are you suffering from headaches or drowsiness in the morning or body tremors, sometimes violent tremors, these are very serious conditions to suffer from and require treatment, please don’t be self adjusting your oxygen flow levels, without prior discussions with your respiratory specialist, oxygen is a prescription medical treatment and adjusting yourself can be very dangerous.

I hope I have been some help,

Ian.

That really isn’t good enough of A&E benney123, do you have a respiratory nurse, if you do contact them, if your headaches started in May and you’re still suffering from them it certainly does sound like CO2 retention and Covid-19 restrictions or not you should not have to wait this long for diagnosis and treatment, please contact your respiratory specialist or nurse, you really do need treatment.

Sometimes the oxygen litre you are on can cause problems I am on 0.5litres and respiratory department put me on 1 litre and caused me problems due headaches ended ringing the respiratory nurse had to go up same day and put me back to 0.5 litre they decided that I should have oxygen overnight with my CO2 mask which has helped me a lot. But always always check with respirtory department or your consultant before coming of any meds.

Have headaches just started ut might be humid weather causing headaches but still get things checked. If headaches get really bad before Monday go to a and e take care
