Is anyone taking prednisone and have been told you need to take it every day for the rest of your life? If so, what is your daily dosage?

I Take Prednisolone for life, Though I am reducing from 10mg to 5 mg slowly over the next 2 months. I have Steroids in my inhalers, my GP has reduced the Preds as they were playing havoc with my adrenalin glands. My Consultant will be advised by my GP. Take care. xxx

Thanks for your response. My doctor is trying different medications to reduce or eliminate the prednisone because of the side effects.

I’ve taken 20mg for more years than I care to remember, had few side effects my skin is certainly thinner, but that could also be age related. My blood sugars did rise at the start but this is well under control now.

I have tried to cut down but felt so ill decided to stay on that dose.

I’m on it for life as they can not find another drug that I can tolerate. I am on 7.5mg a day. They tried to reduce it to 5 but my symptoms worsened, 7.5mg seems to be the best dosage for me. I take calcium and vitamin D to help side effects.

I’m on pred for life because my adrenal glands no longer working. I tried to get down to 5mg but my breathing and joints were really bad, so on the lung consultants advice I went back up to 7.5mg which is better. The down side if the orthopaedic hospital won’t straighten my toes or replace my knee until I’m off steroids completely, however many times I tell them I’m steroid dependent, and if I come off them I won’t be able to breathe so they wouldn’t operate anyway!

Hello there.

I have been on P for over 3 years, intially high dose of 40mg a day. What I have learnt through the doses being lowered is that you will notice a change in how you feel. In my situation I had no side effects, then they took me off them completely for approx 11 months. Through that time I noticed more episodes is breathlessness infections etc. Now I am on a daily maintenance dose of 7.5mg which really does help.

On a lighter note I refer to them as" evil little ones" for something so small their after taste is a little unpleasant.

All the best Annie
