Bed moving day

As in moving it downstairs. Walking upstairs or downstairs is dangerously difficult. My oxygen drops into the fifties and is very unpleasant. I really don't like bungalows but it would have been so much easier. Thank god I've got a downstairs lavatory

We got a stairlift a year ago when my BB, (spinal injury disabilities), fell all the way down. You should see the damage he did to the wall. We both use it. But maybe even a stairlift wouldn’t help you? Even that might involve too much walking?

And there would be a wait to get one installed by the local authority.

Please take care. There is someone else to help you?

Yes but there are two bends in the stairs so it would be v expensive. and i farly shortly wouldn't be able to manage the bath. My daughter lives here and is a careworker and used to do domiciliary care which is great

I am so sorry about your worsening condition, but so glad you have your daughter there. Will you be able to have a shower installed downstairs? Am I right in thinking you have PH (or CTEPH?) and other comorbidities (don't you just love doctor speak?). I hope you are getting enough support from your medical practitioners and are on "The List."

All the best

Yes, once it's safe to let a plumber in. We were going to have a wetroom and had one quote for £7200 and wasn't as good a specc as I'd asked for. A walk in shower will be fine and much cheaper.

I'm very well looked after by gp, chichester hospital, Southampton and the brompton. The brompton have put me on a new pill, selexipag, and ring every week to see how I'm going. The dose gradually increases until you can't stand the side effects!

I didn't realise quite how anxious i was about the difficulty of getting upstairs, my oxygen was going down to 50, which is not nice. Very relaxed now.

Thank you very much

Having a downstairs toilet will pay dividends now. I'm glad that your daughter is with you and I'm sure that you will find daily living easier by staying downstairs.

I wish I had had a downstairs toilet installed instead of the stairlift. I’d settle for a turbo assist chair for the lift though. 🙄

Many moons ago my mum had one installed in my nana's cottage so that she could have her bed downstairs. In later years my sister lived in the cottage and said the downstairs loo was great when she was toilet training her children.

Stair lifts are very helpful but do move very, albeit safely, slowly.

In my last house i put in a shower and lavatory using a saniflo macerator. It worked really well in a small space

The kids did it, my daughter and her bf. I couldn't possibly have done it. All done now

My husband has his bed in a downstairs room , we rent a stairlift , and we have a downstairs toilet . After he was extremely ill a few years ago , the hospital wouldn’t discharge him until this was in place . Stairlifts are a blessing and you can get them on tracks now to go around the shape of the stairs . He also has a careline button , so if I am out of reach , ie out to a shop (in normal times ) he can get in touch with someone if he needs help .

That was so much easier, should have done it a while back. We need to sort the cats out. They arrived in november and are very wary of me because i can't bend down and stroke them. Bruiser used to sleep on or under my bed and tinkerbelle used the bed to get on the windowcill. Jo is going to make them a den and a ladder.

Hi there,

I had to move down stairs about 4 years ago, don't try moving the bed by yourself with your stats this could be dangerous and could result in a hospitalisation. Please get a friend or somebody with a bit of muscle to do it. Just make sure you keep the distance rule.

I've still got a spare single bed in the garage as they insisted I had an adjustable hospital bed as part of the package. The move & bed have made an enormous difference, the other pieces of the package have made life so much easier.

The annoying thing I extended the loft space to build a special bedroom with views of the sea & downs, now I can't use it, but it does give my wife a little pleasure looking out onto the sea & downs. So not totally in vain, just annoying.
