Good afternoon I am trying to find out information regarding pain management, I am suffering severe knee pain from arthritis which reducing my mobility massively, as a result I have piled on weight which is affecting my COPD/breathing, I need to reduce the pain to get moving again I hear about pain management plans but my GP says she unlimited as to what she is able to offer, advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Pain management is seen as a last resort after all other treatments have been tried. I have severe osteoarthritis in my spine and joints, plus widespread chronic pain syndrome and they believe complex regional pain syndrome and I was only referred to pain management after all other options had been visited. In my case steroid injections did not work, opiate's were of limited help and non steroidal medications and antiinflammatories did not work. What treatments for your knee have been tried? What tests have been done? Who as your GP referred you too in regard to your knee pain?
Thank you, I am very similar, steroids don't work, opiates the same but NSAIDS have affected my gastro tolerance and I recently suffered a huge rectal bleed due to diverticulitis so they too are off the list but still the pain persists, the local MSK specialist has diagnosed severe osteoarthritis but my obesity and other conditions are blocking replacement but as mobility decreases my conditions deteriorate and weight loss is nigh impossible.
She could refer you for a knee brace, I have braces for both knees and they sure help.
Hi did you have any tests to say it’s arthritis in your knee? Perhaps a recommended physio could help and advise you?
Thank you, yes xrays and physio examination has diagnosed severe osteoarthritis,my BMI is too high for surgery but pain and mobility are severely hindering exercises and weight loss.
Hello there, I am currently waiting for a knee replacement . Its been an horrendous journey since last May. I have arthritis in several joints or pain if you want to put it simply, its been so since 1990 . I have tried most treatments including drugs (opiods now) even the latest CBD capsules, in my case pain management consisted of a long chat with a pain specialist and adviced to join a group to talk about my experiences and theirs, no change in other theraphy. Right now I cannot walk without pain or stand so I am not a good advert for arthritis treatment. However there is some new research being done by Synexus & Medinova I think in respect of new drugs which could be promising for the future. Or you could try getting on the research and it might help you now. I'm finding trying to walk with high level pain is reducing my stamina and effecting my breathing or is it just the extra pills who knows. Oh and my rheumatoligist thinks it is early arthritis, maybe they should walk in our shoes. Take care, don't overdo things and maybe you may find help, have you tried Tumeric by the way? Hi much of your post affects me in a similar way but there doesn't seem to be many positive outcomes, I'm really looking for some sort of relief so I can get moving to lose weight and have knee replacement which is a long way off at the moment.
Are you exceptionally over weight? if so I found in the past even losing half a stone helped. Is there any Gym fitness groups run by your council so you can lose weight carefully. Strong pain killers like opiods might allow you to do a little exercise. or what about chair exercises . Diet pills are not an option as they can make you very ill. Wish I could help but as you say both in the same boat rowing hard and going nowhere. Have a relaxed weekend and try finding something you can ask the DR for in pills maybe.
Hi thanks for your kind words, unfortunately I am very overweight which adds to the problem, overweight also affects some of my other conditions so it's imperative I lose weight but struggle with reduced mobility and constant pain, you too enjoy your weekend .
Do u have an arthtritis dr who can help with meds or a cortisone shot...try to get the weight back off if u can...
Hi...... Have an arthritic knee which after walking a short distance is agony.
Never realised it could be so painful. I can bend my knee easily, but straighten and weight bear after sitting or walking is a nightmare.
My Gp wants me to have physio on that knee.
I have to persevere, am told it will be even more painful to start with.
But am guaranteed it will get better.
I don't believe it, not one little bit. Hope I'm given a set crutches,
I will certainly need them
But a steroid injection will only last a few months.......
Can only take paracetamol, nothing else.
So I don't have much choice.....

Very similar specially with the paracetamol, not sure they can guarantee it will get better but I will keep everything crossed for you.
That sounds Like me , haven't found any simple answer. The knee arthritis is not the same as other joints its a vicious circle trying to lose weight and manage pain. Understand how you all feel.
Have you asked your doctor to refer you to a dietitian to help you with weight management? An occupational therapist should be able to advise about better ways to do things around the house, and physios should be able to prescribe exercises to help you tone muscles without putting too much strain on damaged joints.
I don't have a weight issue, and manage well indoors.
Walking around a supermarket I am about on my limit.
I don't have a problem any more driving as I have had
peddle extensions fitted, so now it's very much easier to change gear.
Plus much cheaper than buying an automatic.
