Bronchiectasis - Tension/Pressure/Soreness inside upper back

Hi !

I'm a 64 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with bronchiectasis. No idea how badly I have it, as not had a CT scan or chest clinic appointment yet. My most distressing symptom is a constant tension/pressure/soreness inside my upper back (feels like its in my actual lungs), which can interfere with my sleep. I have no mucus, no cough, no chest infection (haven't had one for years). I am slim (actually a bit too thin since I have lost weight with this) and fit. Anybody know why I would have this sensation ? Am I stuck with it for ever ?

If you've been struggling with breathing or coughing, it may be sore intercostal muscles, the little muscles between the ribs. To massage, drop a hard ball between your back and your chair back and move around a bit to make the ball rotate on the sore bits.

If it's not that simple, hopefully you'll get a better idea what it is once you've had a CT scan and a Chest Clinic appointment.

All the best.

Thanks for the tip ! I have one of those hard massage balls and I will give it a go.

I had the diagnosis weeks ago but the surgery still haven't sorted me out a CT scan and chest clinic appointment - my GP said she would, then she suddenly left without doing it. I am expecting a call from another doctor today (the 4th one I have dealt with so far). I'm as upset about the feeling that nobody at the surgery is looking out for me as I am about the actual diagnosis. I live on my own and am feeling rather isolated at the moment. I'm so pleased I found this forum and have some support. :-)

We're glad to have you along with us. I have learned so much from the other people here. Wishing you all the best in getting your surgery to do the right thing. They are under a lot of pressure these days, so we have to keep pestering when things don't happen as they should.

Hope you feel better soon.
