I became very very breathless about 2 weeks ago, stats down to 71, went to A & E was put on oxygen etc and was put on Prednisolone after a few hours observation I was sent home. After about a week the same symptoms started again, I took my emergency meds. The only thing that is really horrible is that my ankles are really very swollen, and I am urinating every 2 hours all day and through the night. I hardly sleep at all and feel like a wet rag, Has this happened to anyone else?

Have you asked your GP.

I hope things get sorted.

If your body is so swollen, that’s probably why you are urinatingso much.

Hi Woofly and welcome.

You don't say why you were very breathless. Do you have asthma? Was it a chest infection? The prednisolone can keep you awake as for the swelling and frequent urination - I can't help you there. Only to say that my ankles are also frequently swollen but I'm not really sure of the reason. It comes and goes.

One way to rule out most things is a blood test. Tell your doctor the symptoms and ask them to run some tests. Your GP should be able to order most tests. Have you seen your GP after the A&E visit?

Hello there,

Yes, these are some of the many side effects I have had taking Prednisolone over the past 2 years. Everyone has side effects using this drug. Drugs.com has the full list of possible side effects. As for me I have had extremely swollen feet, legs and hands. The higher the dose the more pronounced these side effects become for me. I started on 50 mg for several months and now after gradual decreases am down to 10 mg. I won't bother going into all the side effects I have had or am still having but management is a major factor. I now walk with a beautiful cane much admired by strangers. It gives me support, helps with the giddies and allows me to walk a bit further each day. I'm now up to 3 kms per day from nothing 2 years ago. I have found after 4 ILD specialists that the side effects are not spoken about until the patient raises the subject. Incredible! I think the specialists believe that if we are warned about this, we, the patients will conjure them up to get attention. Don't tell them and it won't happen. However, I think the reverse is true. If you know about the problems you can deal with it far better rather it scaring the **** out of you.

If you have a lot of salty foods, try cutting down on the salt as that can make the body retain more water. I'm on several potassium losing meds, so have to have a very low salt diet and try to raise potassium and magnesium intakes with lots of fruit and veg and decaf coffee, and Epsom Salts baths. I still wake up every two hours through the night, but my fitbit tells me I usually manage about 6.5 hours good sleep a night once the breaks are factored out.

Are you diabetic?

I believe frequent urination is one of the signs, swollen ankle a sign of water retention so best get checked out at the GP asap. P

I also had frequent urination, practically nearly every hour,I was referred to the hospital,i was subjected to sitting 2 hours with my legs wide opened and jubes inserted in me ,unfortunately they found nothing, they wanted me to wear a bag so I could urinate in ,I said definitely not as I know mentally it wouldn't help ,one doctor did mention maybe I didn't empty my bladder properly, little did he know I think that was the problem. They made many more appointments and I asked them to discharge me.

I am 70 years old.
