Yesterday was exciting
With two tests I had due
A field test for my eyesight
And a blood test taken too
The field test was important
T'was for the DVLA
If you don't pass it's disastrous
They take your licence away.
So off I go intrepidly
The eye test went just fine
But I failed the flipping blood test
A vein they couldn't find! (I've to go back tomorrow)

That will be my third. The first was my usual 6 monthly diabetes one, they texted me to go for another one, so tomorrow will be the third. I think the doc is feeding his tomato plants with it. 😉

Dashing to and fro in car and all of it quite legal
But when it comes to giving blood he hasn't got a vein
Frustrating for the nurses and for the Master just a bruise and pain

I'd never pass the alcohol test
I was actually offering you my blood Master Po but i imagine as you say given my liking of alcoholic beverages it is somewhat contaminated and you could end up losing that precious licence you have managed to retain. x
That's precisely what I meant my dear chap, you make no secret of your liking for the red stuff. 😉

Great news about passing the test. Wishing you all the best for your next blood test though. My mum has that kind of problem where they can't find her veins and it can be very unpleasant for her. I hope yours goes as well as that kind of thing can 🤞

The eye test was the 6th I've had, one every three years, so was I wasn't greatly worried. The lady doing the test explained that they do four test runs, two with glasses on and two without. After the first run she had to check that the machine was working because I had 100% hits. When I did the same on the second run with the same result she said I need not don anymore. One thing about having Glaucoma is that if you catch it early enough before any great damage is done, you have the benefit of excellent detailed regular care from the hospital for the rest of your life.
Another interesting thing I was told is when I leave them my old worn-out body, my eyes will probably be the only things that will still be 'fit for purpose' because they don't rely on a blood supply like the rest of my body.
I’m a bit focused on eyes, being quite well along the line for cataract ops, but still waiting for the optician’s opinion after the second one recently.
Good to know you get such good care for glaucoma. I think my new eyes are fine, excellent even, but both seem to have developed a patch of ‘night blindness’ since the ops....a shady patch middle eyes when in low light, especially coming out from bright light into low light, or no light, or from reading my iPad.
I’m hoping this will improve. Optician just says be sure lots of vitamin A in your diet, and you can always put a bright light on....they work perfectly then. But I do wonder about going into tunnels etc, though these are generally lit, I suppose 👁👁

I find that it takes my eyes much longer to adjust to the level of light than it used to do. Driving on a very sunny day down a shady tree lined road can be troublesome. It's an age related thing. 🙄
Oh dear...I did wonder! As long as it gets no worse, and knowing you’ve got it helps, I suppose.
Btw I’m reading the publication you gave us a link to on driving. The stats are already making me be extra careful turning right onto a busy road.
Like you, I expect, I’ve driven hundreds of thousands of miles since I learnt at my dad’s garage years and years ago, and took my test in my school uniform! I’d hate to be caught out. Knowledge of the common errors helps. So thanks for that, Don 🌟 Penny xx
Oh what bother Don. At least The eye test was okay. I find heating up the area with something warm , helps them find the veins better. Mine are miniscule according to the hundreds of frustrated nurses I have had over the years squinting at my arm. Better luck tomorrow. Love to you and Midge. xx 🙋🐕🐾
Thanks Cas, heating the area is a new one on me. As it happened my heating had gone kaput on the morning I went and I always wear the minimum of clothes for easy access. I remarked on how chilly it was in that waiting room before I went in so that could well have been the reason. Pretty incredible you still having the license. My Dad’s same age as you and myself & siblings had to go to his doctor to get it taken as he was all over the road AND. Sidewalks! He still drives. One of us takes the vehicle and he just goes and buys another illegal junker. So I imagine you will drive until you no longer want to but do be careful with Midge and Dolly🚕 good luck tomorrow with the blood work👍🏼
I took the mature driver assessment 2015 and have a certificate of competence, I think I'll take it again 2020. Driving has been a hobby with me since I was 17 (before actually but I don't talk about that.😉)
Wrap your arm up to keep it warm, it will be colder out there today, the cold shrinks the veins.

Hi Don those field tests are strange arnt they did you do the one with the ring on a stick and putting ring over lit lights or the one where you click a button when a light flashes Because ofy double vision due to Graves disease I end up clicking even when there arnt any lights lol
I've always had the clicky one, they try to catch you out by missing a beat every now and then which counts as a miss. I got wise to that 18 years ago. 😊
I get a nervous twitch and my count is over the top and have to do it again. Then they get fed up and send me home with another appointment in a few weeks time when we go through all the same procedure yet again. So thank you Don will try that next time ! Now i dare not go to optician for fear of all that starting again!
Field test is a dirty word!
They are very stressful I find, maintaining concentration and knowing that you could lose your driving licence if you mess up make it so. If you listen to the sound the machine makes during the test you can hear when it's missing a beat, there's something behind the screen which moves to a fresh sequence.

Not me I've just had so many. So much depends on the operator, some don't realise how stressful it is. Don't let them rush you take your time and try to relax and do ask for a practice run. Specsavers were prepared to do 4 runs and to take the best one, I've never had that offered before.

They don't tell you Margaret. They will either send me a renewed driving licence before 07/11/19 or tell the my application was not successful. DVLA pay for the test, arranged the test, so the result is theirs and nowt to do with me.
