Four scientists from four leading universities in the United States conducted a comprehensive review of all e-cigarette/vaping peer-reviewed scientific papers that pertain to the lungs and published their findings today in the British Medical Journal.

Corresponding author Rob Tarran, PhD, professor of cell biology and physiology and member of the UNC Marsico Lung Institute, said, “Studies show measurable adverse biologic effects on lung health and cells in humans, in animals, and in tissue samples studied in the lab. The effects of e-cigarettes have similarities to those seen in traditional cigarettes and important differences.”

Thanks 2greys...pretty sure this answers a question that has really been. Bothering me these past couple of years. Early in 2015, I tried vaping as a means to quit smoking....did not work! Tried it only for a month. The solution was way too strong. Never a cough before, when I began coughing I quit the vaping. The cough persisted when I returned to my regular cigs.. A year and a half later, was when I began getting sinusitis and bronchitis that kept recurring. The cough continued, so I managed to quit smoking (without a crutch) and have not had any sort of infection (knock wood) since. The cough left, has not returned. During process of trying to get over bronchitis, many tests were performed, scans to try to identify reAson for ambulatory oxygen desaturation . Tests have consistently shown "very minimal volume loss in base of both lungs ." FEV is 20 to 30 pts above predicted for me, my age, but DLCO (oxygen exchange) is much much lower than predicted. Thanks for sharing this. I go next month for PET to try to learn if spot is benign (hopeful since as of May it had not changed since first discover, still 6.5 mm.) Bronchiecstasis is going to be with me regardless, but so far so good on that. If spot is not benign, I'll be back, asking you what procedure you had. Thanks again! J.
