My Microwave Oven.

I've a happy little microwave

That's beeping all the time.

It beeps for this and beeps for that

Just saying that it's fine

My wife never used it much

Good cooks never do

But Midge and I rely on it

To provide us grub on cue.

It is in fact quite clever

That can do lots of things

But I just need it warming stuff

And wait until it tings

It must be quite old now

I hope it doesn't conk out

Cos when it comes to microwaves

I admit to knowing nowt!

Good morning Mr.D and I'm afraid that I'm just the same. Before I had oxygen on,i cooked from scratch(not that I ever managed anything Cordon Bluie, but I had a go). Now though it is remarkable what the supermarket s sell and it is a trial and error process. Our little microwave, tucked into the kitchen corner must be an OAP by rights, but I don't want to trade him in for a new model as he's been there for me,day in and day out, lol!

Isn't it peculiar how your posts spark off all kinds of conversation .... Thank goodness for that!! 😂😂💞💞

Hello Don, we use our microwave for heating and defrosting mostly but wouldn’t be without it. Keep pinging away microwaves, we love you. Xxxx😀😘

Keep that microwave pinging and keep those rhymes coming!

Enjoy your day, Don.

What will you find to write about next I wonder?

Love to you and Midge

They used to be quite popular and really all the rave

There was nothing quite like the famous Microwave

And now for lovers of chips and stuff you really should aspire

For healthy hearts and other reasons to invest in an Air Fryer

Fat free Ski's with a boring plate of chips.i'm off down the chippie for the real thing....:) x

Yes, I'm not too impressed by air fryer chips - they're ok, edible - but not yummy like those from the chippy. Think I'd rather have the cupboard space back - mmm, I am downsizing🤔 perfect excuse to donate it to charity.

Magpuss it will probably sit alongside my foolish purchase of the healthy but boring alternative... :) xx

in reply to Magpuss

I bought a deep fat fryer thinking I'd replicate chippy chips, but it never did and having half a gallon oil sitting around was a nuisance.

Magpuss profile image
Magpuss in reply to

Yep, did that too Don before replacing it with another waste of money - the air fryer. I've come to the conclusion that I'd need to buy a chippy to get the results that I'd like, next best thing is let the chippy do it for me - just like I used to do before being beguiled by all the ads. Proves one thing though - you're never too old to be daft.

it would appear we are a gang of 3 and likewise i dabbled with the deep fryer but a waste of time for peeps living alone unless you have chips every day and the copious amounts of cooking oil or lard type stuff that is almost impossible to dispose of without trips to a recycling center meant it was soon disposed of. :)

Have you tried McCain Home chips, crinkle cut? 30 minutes at 200 in your proper oven? I find these quite good, don't like chips from the chippie any more though. Not like they used to be, or is it me? Probably!

We had to get one when the Aga was out of action for a while. But it has been put away until the next time. Never quite got the hang of it. Things took longer than I expected. But I can see the advantages.

Is there anything that escapes your eagle poetic eye? What next? I think we are getting a picture of your house, mugs, microwave, teabags. Dishcloth?

Eagerly awaiting the next one

Mines so old it doesn’t beep, it’s just got a dial you turn to however many minutes and it dings when it’s done. (On a separate note, what is the correct past tense of ding? With ring it’s rung, with sing it’s sang or sung, so is it dung? Or dang? You wouldn’t say the phone ringed) Anyway 🤪 I really only use mine for reheating things, or heating those ready made supermarket meals full of rubbish and fat but which taste strangely good.

I got so excited there, thinking I was about to discover a treasure trove of grammar and vocabulary to answer all my weird and wonderful musings, but alas I get the dreaded Error 404 message saying the page does not exist 😭

Microwaves are useful for ready meals and heating stuff up and not really that expensive very handy if your not well enough to cook.💕X

I made a mistake with the first one I got (and still use). It was a combo one that also had a grill. It's huge!! Now I know I would have been better with a simpler one with same rating.

Although I do cook most things from scratch I wouldnt be without my microwave for heating things up especially when I am not good and take a chicken soup out of the freezer. What a great mind you have Mr D your imagination knows no bounds, our daily poems are second to none x

Lol another good one, keep on pinging

Microwaves are great for preparing scrambled eggs and also for making custard. And you can cook an egg in a mug in a microwave in about 30-40 seconds, rather than having to boil it in a pan - just pierce the yolk first (or you get explosive eggy microwave decorations).

Venerable Don.👨‍🎓

I want to ask you what prompts you each day to find such different topics.

I am constantly amazed at how your brain works and have to say I envy you😉😉😉😉

Keep pinging Don 👨‍🍳x

in reply to Whitechinchilla

Oh please don't ask that, if I stopped to think about it I probably wouldn't be able to do it anymore. 😂

I use my microwave to cook beetroots in a fraction of the time it takes by boiling, start off jacket potatoes, quickly cook Butternut squash before stuffing.Sterilising compost in a covered bowl for special seed sewing, My salad spinner for practically drying tights in an emergency, Most kitchen items have a dual purpose if you give them some thought.
