Referral from Cardiology

Hello - having been treated for heart disease for the past 6 years (which included every scan possible) cardiologists doubted their original diagnosis and referred me to Respiratory where the feeling is I have late-onset asthma and have started me on a course of inhalers. I wonder if any other members have spent years attending cardiology appointments only to find the problem is asthma?

I spent years being treated for asthma,COPD allergies, random symptoms.

Finally had an emergency admission last year.

Diagnosed with Non Specific Interstitial pneumonia. Then this year, told I have lupus.

Long dr wants me to reduc asthma medication. Does this mean I haven’t got asthma?

Thank you for your reply Oshgosh; I hope you soon get a correct diagnosis.

Hello to you. I’m not in your situation but am just curious to know if the inhalers are helping? If so I guess it points to it being respiratory rather than cardiac. How frustrating for you. Hopefully this is now the correct diagnosis and can be treated more effectively.

Hello thank you for your interest. Early days to say if inhalers are being effective. I am monitoring using a Peak Flow Meter and some days I feel a definite improvement but other days none.

As my problem was highlighted when I felt distressed getting out of a cable car at 3500 metres on Mount Teide, Tenerife, I was tested for a year for heart problems. The consultant said the only heart issue I had was slight enlargement of the upper right chamber of the heart, indicating a lung condition. I returned to my GP and was eventually diagnosed with moderate COPD and late onset asthma. My COPD has now improved to just within the normal range for someone of my age, etc, due to the exercise, singing, and generally healthier lifestyle I've adopted since diagnosis, thanks to the lovely people on here.

Very interesting that you went the "heart route" Ergendl before your respiratory diagnosis. Thank you for your advice.
