Hello.

Am new here... but i have a seemingly daft question.

As a patient, can i ask to see the results of my test? .

I have RA and am reakisinh that am told nothing of any note by my doctors.

You sure can. I always get mine but to be in the safe side maybe ask your doctors to tell the technicians/nurses who do the tests that you are to have them.

Then post them here, we are always a interested and some members are very knowledgeable.

P.S. your name was familiar so looked back at your previous post. When I had a pulmonary lung function test at RBH I asked the young woman for the printout and she gave me a copy without demurring. So when you have yours there just ask for it.

As Kate says, yes, ask for copies of all your tests.

I keep copies of my latest tests in a slim wallet. I take them with me as part of my emergency kit when I'm away from home. (Medication, contact details etc). Then if I need a doctor/hospital visit I can show them what my lung conditions are, a good start with solving any new problems,

Also, I take them with me when I see the respiratory nurse at my GP's surgery. Believe it or not, even though she does a quick puff test and gives out advice she was expected to do so without access to my medical notes!

The nurse is lovely and her advice is sound but I feel she understands me better and can tailor her treatment of me now she actually knows what's happening inside me.

Excellent. I try to have all my documents, tests, letters scanned onto my phone but Sod’s law and my disorganised mind being what they are it means that the one I want is missing/hiding...

Yes, they are yours!! Also with the state of the NHS it pays to have copies of your test results and to be the keeper of your own information. I had an appointment with my gastro consultant two weeks ago - I thought I was there for one condition and he thought I was there for another. And he'd only been given a 'partial file' as he called it, literally a thin folder with a few notes. I waved my tests and at him and ended up getting both conditions dealt with and he was very grateful Id drawn his attention to the second one. We are our best agents and need to work in partnership with our medics. Having our test results helps us to do that. Ok, lecture over and good luck at the Brompton.

In England we have the right to see all of our medical records, if anyone says differently then they are wrong. We may have to pay for printed copies. After visits to a consultant she/he can send us a copy of their letter to our GP but we may have to request that.

When I got quite a few pages a few years ago it cost £15-£20

Hello there, you are definately allowed to see all medical reports, unfortunately on occassions what seems like relevent info to you may be missed out by a medical person. You can ask for all your medical records, some are supplied on CD some paper, if you apply immediately they are free. If you apply for old records after 40 days I think it cost over £50 nowadays for copies. You need to request GP records from practice manager or hospital ones from a special department and you need two witnesses as ID. The cost for hospital records is only for the records from each individual hospital , so if you have attended several hospitals there is a fee for each hospital patient record at present until everything goes digital in the near future.Pals can advise you on all these matters if you contact them.
