Does anyone have experience of Phages for treatment of Bronchiectasis, I saw a BBC 1 program fronted by Angela Ripon that had a lady claimed to have had success with Phage treatment obtained through a company in Georgia (Republic of).

Hi,

I am also fairly new to this forum, being diagnosed with this awful condition last March. I have not seen this programme, however I am going to look into it and watch this later today. I find this very interseting so thanks for sharing this with us because antibiotics are not the answer in all flare ups as it could simply be a non infective flare caused by a virus. I have currently been off work for the last week with a bad flare up for which I started taking antibiotics as advised, however 3 days later a sputum sample came back with bacteria that is normally present when one has too many antibiotics. Doctor then prescribed 7 days of steroids, 6 x 5mg at breakfast, which seem to be doing the trick. This is my first flare up after my initial one last year, exactly 1 year to the day when I was in hospital with pneumonia. I have since found that exercise, breathing techniques and the outdoors has kept flare ups at bay. This week has been a reminder of how bad things can get with flare ups and how not to simply just take antibiotics when you believe you may have an infection. Get a sputum sample in fast and then another after 3 days. Use those breathing techniques, exercises twice a day but not too late in the evening as I find this can encourage too much coughing at bedtime. My condition is classed as moderate and affecting all lobes but worried at how this will progress. Our GP seems to have very little knowledge on the condition. Hope you keep well and I will report back after looking into this further but would be interesting to find out if anyone else has knowledge of these.
