I first posted on here quite recently. I’ve been diagnosed for 3 years but basically ignored it as my view on my level of stress was that I needed to smoke. Anyway I gave up in Oct 18 as my breathing was getting worse, from that time I opened my eyes to my diagnosis. Yes I’m very lucky I got diagnosed early and am mild and as I’ve now quit nasty nic I’m in with a great chance to live a longer healthier life. So I joined this site and I admit my initial post was quite naive as I didn’t understand the figures etc. I soon realised that everyone responded positively to me and were v open in explaining their situation and I ended up feeling so very grateful for the responses. What I really picked up on is the community positivity which is very inspiring. I don’t always post but like to read how everyone is getting on and firstly I want to thank you all for your optimism and strength, it’s so impressive. Also I’ve noticed how new members come here v anxious and the advice and knowledge is incredible!! I’m sometimes astounded that others don’t pick up on the strength and positivity and let that help drive them forward as it has me!! So thank you and newer members, please read, learn and remain positive 😊 x

All of us at one time came in needing support and help including me. We in turn pass it on to others. It's like a kindness - pass it on and it's like a ripple effect. We can't do much about all the horrible things in the world but we can help make our corner of it a bit better. x

Thing with COPD is if we have it, we have it. We look for advice at times and we give advice at time, that is how we function.

When I was diagnosed with COPD I did not go in a shell and kept working, and stopped smoking. My job was hard and had to work outside in all weathers, I was a garden nursery worker. I then was diagnosed with Angina, kept working against doctors orders and had to stop as I was not functioning correctly. The morel is had I took advice from my doctor at the start, I may not have regressed as much as I did.

This forum is a community and people offer sound advice and at times you can offer sound advice...

For example in your case don't go back on the ciggies and keep as active as possible but always follow doctors advice on that and last, don't worry - You have COPD and just look after yourself, worry just makes things worse .. Best wishes. Ern

Hi Eddie, sounds like you have a sense of humour, which is useful when things get tough.Welcome to the site. Well done for quitting keep it up, there are lots of other nicer things you can do instead. It took me three tries but it can be done. Copd is a bit up and down but we all shine through even with really bad days. Look forward to seeing you on here more frequently now .
