You need hands........

I sometimes sit and look at them

And think of what they've done.

Ranging from some high-class work,

To merely scratch my bum.

They looked so nice when they were new,

But as the years went by,

The slow deterioration

Was enough to make me cry.

There's botex for the wrinkles

And there's corsets for the tum.

But my hands will always show,

How many miles I've done.

My hands, when not covered with bruises from work, certainly show their millage.

Those hands that served you well.

Hands can wave to one who is going

Hands can reach out to one who is near

hands can hold a baby

hands can wipe away a tear

Hands can be held together

when we need the way to steer

But what hands do the above all other

is to reach out to one another

Just make sure you wash'em. 👍😉

Corsets?? Can you still get them?

Remember my mums pink ones lol with hooks down the side 😃

Wish it was only the hands that went 😉

in reply to Kittykat2

My mother had those with metal rods in the like flattened springs. Hugging my mum was a mechanical experience. I doubt you can get those today........legally 😂

I held my Mums hands nearly everyday when she was in the hospice and thought what these tiny little fingers had created over the years, she was very creative, as a dress designer she made so many garments that gave pleasure to alot of people, her garden was really something special and her writing was good too. But most of all is her healing hands to her children to which I was lucky to be one of the them. So yes Don, hands do tell a tale and we should be proud of what they have done x

Quite thought provoking this morning, Don! Looked at my knobbly fingers and remembered all the things my hands have done from changing nappies to making bridesmaid dresses and so on - quite a trip down memory lane. Thank you! xx Moy

I have often thought about my hands. They have aged and are freckley but have done so much.Cared for five children, knitted and stitched so many clothes, cooked hundreds of meals, cleaned lots of rooms etc etc. They have also created many things including paintings and greeting cards. They help me make the most of myself with make up and hair products. I only realised how much we need them when I broke my wrist, putting my right hand out of action. It was a nightmare! I couldn't write, have a proper wash, drive, open tins, jars etc. Chopping veg was impossible. I couldn't do my hair or make up properly!. Hands are wonderful!!

I have short, plump fingers and tiny hands. 😂

Over the years a few people have asked me if I play the piano. I've looked at them as if they're psychic or something! In the end I asked why do you ask, apparently I have long fingers, the result of playing the piano as a child. I must say I haven't played it since but I suppose those were the formative years. I don't like my hands otherwise, but I like the fact people can tell something from them.

Maybe that has something to do with it Huff. I played the flute, picollo and clarinet. But I don't think it helped much ✋. The choir conductress at our cathedral played the organ and she had tiny hands. 😁 I wonder if it's genetic?? Do you still play? xx 🎹🎼

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply to Caspiana

Maybe it is genetic, my mum has long fingers I suppose. I don't still play the piano though I often think if the opportunity presented itself I'd like to play again. I'd need a refresher course though. I used to be able to read music but I can't remember a thing, when I see sheet music I can't recognise anything ☹️ Do you play any instruments still? 🎼🎶🎵

Caspiana profile image
Caspiana in reply to HungryHufflepuff

No, but I used to play in a symphony orchestra. Decades ago. 😀 It was a very good experience for a young person. A refresher course definitely needed! I have not looked at sheet music for a very long time now. xx 🎶

My mum was my driving force. She made me work very hard. 😯 I don't think I would have come to anything without her pushing. 😄But now, it is mostly lost to me. xx

HungryHufflepuff profile image
HungryHufflepuff in reply to Caspiana

Same here, not that I was in anywhere near the same league as you, but it was my parents who wanted me to play the piano. Although I've now pretty much forgotten how to play I'm still grateful to them.

Me too. It taught me how to work for something. xx 😊
