Could use some advice

Hi everyone

Happy Friday from the states. So since my last post my ct scan came back clear and my spirometer was within normal limits. Good news but I'm still not well. I still have chest tightness and an occasional discomfort underneath the breast bone area. My kidneys now seem to be aggravated which makes me worry about acidosis. I went to a urologist to examine my urine as it has some floatiea. I went back to my lung specialist with an updated x ray which she said it was fine. She listens to my lungs, no obstruction etc.

I'm happy to get clean results but is there something I'm missing Here? What should I do next? When I play softball I don't feel good. Thx everyone

Hi, the body as a number of mechanisms to regulate blood pH levels. If your tests have come back normal then you should not have a problem with acidosis. Asthma and in some cases anxiety can cause respiratory acidosis but this is quickly corrected when normal breathing is established. As your blood pH been tested? Other reasons can include chest deformation/injury, musculoskeletal problems and in some cases obesity. However as your kidney function tests and respiratory tests are within normal limits then if it was me I personally would not be worried about acidosis.

I was just wondering if your chest tightness may be due to some irritant in your environment which as caused a reaction? Obviously you are worried and I was thinking as anxiety started to play a role? Diagnosis is often a process of elimination and to get a diagnosis from your doctor you need to look at all possible causes.

No blood test, doc said with my o2 levels it would not be recommended. I was ok with that because of fear of my PH. But if I am acidic it's wrecking my kidneys. My spirometer had gas exchange in it and it was good. But the abg test won't lie

Before retiring I worked in a renal unit. The kidneys have many mechanisms to regulate blood pH. As you have good kidney function any temporary acidosis caused by breathing irregularities such as an asthma attack would be corrected. Arterial blood gases are only normally taken if other symptoms of poor gas exchange where present. Obviously no one can diagnose online. If you where acidotic then you would present with other symptoms none of which you have given. Your concerns should be taken back to your Doctor to discuss.

So I went and did my blod work for my kidneys. I actually sent in a VBG I had ran on me at the ER about 10 weeks ago to my Pulmonary Doc and she said she didn't see anything to be concerned about. my PH was lisghlty alkaline which was surprising to me being I thought I was more acidic.

Here are the numbers let me know your thoughts being you have some exp

PH7.52

PCO2 28 L

Po2 82 H

Total CO2 23

HCO3 (Bicarb) 22

Base Excess 0

Hi bloods are only one aspect that a Doctor gains to form an opinion. There are numerous subjective and objective parts of the puzzle. From the physical examination to just talking to the person. You are looking at results in isolation your Doctor as the full picture and if she as no concerns then as she as a fuller picture of you. Then I personally would go with her opinion. Yes I do have experience and from that I have learnt that you must take an holistic view and look at everything. Just looking at your bloods in isolation I see nothing that would excite me but your Doctor knows you far better.

Not a problem. At times talking through things is how I deal with issues.
