Jay, do you take anyPPIs? When taking steroids you need to protect your stomach as they can damage it. As for sleeping my hubby has been on steroids for the last month and is still finding it difficult to sleep. His course is coming to an end so hopefully things will improve.
Omeprazole, ranitidine or similar. They are proton pump inhibitors , they line the stomach and protect it from drugs or food. Personally I take them as I have a hiatus hernia, hubby has coeliac disease and lymphocytic colitis among other things. You will see a lot of people take them on BLF and BHF pages. Hope this helps.
My sympathies. Did you read the accompanying leaflet with the abs? Usually it has advice about the timely taking of ppi when on the abs, with/without food etc. Failing that, speak to your pharmacist.
I've read on the forum that acid reflux sufferers are advised to sleep on left side due to the shape of stomach & overflow of acid. Also some sleep on raised pillows or head end of bed. P
I read somewhere not to sleep on your side so tried to sleep upright on my back but was so uncomfortable. Was just awake until about 4am again! I will read up about ppi, hope I can get something to help, thank you
If you look up the shape of a human stomach you'll see why sleeping on your left is recommended whereas when sleeping on right side isn't because acid easily overflows and spills out.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, steroids keep most people awake at night! Horrendous for me.
When I'm on a course I set my alarm for 5am, take the tablets & go back to sleep. This way makes the following night at least 50% better
Raise the top part of your body with extra pillows, I have 2 pillows and a neck hook and lumber support, sometimes I use 3 pillows and stagger the 3rd one so it helps raise the chest. Sleep how its comfortable for you.
I still sleep on my side even when feeling a bit icky with reflux before bed. I tend to take a Rennie before bed to help sleep without having reflux issues.

I bought some Gaviscon, hopefully it will help. I will also use pillows as you suggested, thank you.
Hi Jay if you've had a lot of antibiotics recently ie more than one course your bowel is likely upset I have found pro biotics helpful in this situation.
However regarding the reflux if its just a 10 day course of Amoxicillin, you need to treat the reflux rather than stopping the Amoxicillin. If you can contact your doctor for a telephone appointment this pm do, explain the situation and I am sure the doc will prescribe you with a prescription for the reflux. If you can't get prescription from the doc in time. Use gaviscon or Rennie, something any anti acid. Its not good to let the reflux go untreated.
It is important to take the ABs with food unless otherwise stated. If you've not eaten much the ABs are more likely to cause the reflex. Check the information leaflet that comes with the medicine it will indicate how you should take the drug and when your should notify the doctor. But with what you are experiencing a chat with the doc if you can this pm would be useful.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

HI, I bought Gaviscon and pro yogurt, also managed a slow puffy walk, if it doesn't work I will contact my dr again, thanks for your help xxx
I have acid reflux, I take Ranitidine for it and it really helps. You can buy it from chemist but from the dr it's cheaper and you get a stronger dose, PPI's like Ompeprazole can cause problems if you take them long term so Ranitidine is safer. You can also take Gaviscon along side it.
You should take Ranitidine an hour before a meal and the abs just after, so there is an hour between them at least.
Take probiotics with your abs too and some natural yogurt.
I sleep half sat up with pillows at night, and always eat dinner by 6pm.
Yes, I take ranitidine too, if I forget my long term antibiotics and steroids when I take them, cause awful stomach acidity too. Talk to your doctor....it’s a well known effect. I use a lot of pillows at night too, but mainly to stop breathing problems. Good luck!
It seems to be the Amocycillin that is upsetting my stomach, they are quite strong 500mg. I had small dinner at 4pm still got stomach ache!. I took a Omeprazole 20mg capsule this morning, I was thinking of stopping Amoxycillin but I should finish the course.
