Has anyone else got "floppy airways"?

My specialist has diagnosed me as having floppy airways and referred me on to a specialist in fixed airflow obstruction and Floppy Airways at a Wythenshawe hospital. I'm struggling to get any info on it. I understand the basis of the condition and know that treatment can be using a Cpap machine. It came from nowhere. One month I could walk up a hill next month I'm struggling on small slopes.

I'm 41 years old, happily married mum to three labradors. Unfortunately I'm now unable to work as a special needs nursery nurse and am claiming benefits. I also have depression, fibromyalgia, disc degeneration disease and raynards syndrome. I used to be able to walk my dogs easily but now a slow 10 minutes in the field twice a day knackers me out. I get breathless just getting my coat on to go out.

It's all really getting me down.

If anyone has floppy airways I'd love to chat to you.

Hugs

Have you looked at anything about sleep apnoea? I think I have heard floppy airways mentioned in connection with that. Someone here will have a proper answer for you.

Hope the new specialist is able to prescribe some treatments that will make you feel more like your old self.

Hi, commiserations, that's a lot to handle. I e been on the forum for over five years and not read anything on floppy airways a,though I know it exists.

I suggest you give the BLF help line a call, they'll hopefully get some information for you. 03000 030555, uk office hours. They've got expert advice on lung health, benefits and also counselling.

Best, Peege

Hi,

My consultant suspected that I had a floppy airway, he did a bronchoscopy which confirmed that I had Tracheomalacia and that I needed CPAP. I’ve now been on CPAP for three years. If you want to chat about it please feel free to pm me. C xx

Hi EmberDog .

Very sorry to report I have never heard of floppy airways. I know what you mean about walking the dogs. I have one and it really is hard to keep up with him. I also have Raynaud's, Sjogren's and RA. It really is such a heap on your plate, but I am so happy you have support by way of your husband and your very beautiful dogs.

Hoping to hear how things go.

Sending warm wishes,

Cas xx 🙋🐕
