Following pneumonia.

Hi Friends.

I went to the hospital for a check yesterday. They’ve had one lot of blood come back and my IeG is still quite high. There’s two more to come back yet. One of which had to be sent away somewhere. One is for eosinophils which were high last time. I don’t know what the other is for. I did the lung function test and that wasn’t brilliant either. I had a nitrogen test which tells them if there’s some inflammation in the lungs. Pneumonitis was mentioned and so was aspergillosis. Doesn’t necessarily mean I have either of those but is suspect. So on not really sure of anything. The Dr was going to go back and speak to her superiors to see what’s next. She thinks I will probably go back in three months time. She said I’m a mystery! To be honest I would sooner watch a mystery on TV than be one.

Has anyone else had a similar thing as this and has anyone got Pneumonitis or Aspergillosis that can give me some information.

Thank you.

Hi Mavary. Pneumonitis is inflammation in the lungs or airways and can have lots of different causes. Most of us ( including the well people who never get tested) can show up aspergillosis from time to time.I do. This means that we are showing a reaction to the fungus aspergilla. This fungus is every where from the leaves in woods to compost heaps and on city windowsills. Usually our immune system sees it off. Rarely the fungus itself gets actually into damaged lungs and needs treatment with anti fungal drugs. I guess that your doc will be making sure that you are just showing a reaction. Good luck. I hope that you get answers soon.

Thanks Littlepom. It’s all a minefield to me. Is it anything to be worried about?

I’m sure if there was your doc would have been on it straight away. Reacting to aspergilla is just one of those things. If you actually had the fungus in your lungs you would be really really poorly. It seems to me that she is trying to find out what is causing the inflammation in your lungs and airways. So hang on in there and don’t forget to ask all of your questions when you see her.

They don’t seem to know what is wrong. They first say it’s interstitial now it’s not certain that it is. I went thinking I was going to be discharged now I’m not sure what’s happening. I’m just worried I’m going to have a bad breathing attack like the one that put me in hospital last time. I know it’s not right.

It’s good that they are continuing to look for what is causing your problems and that you have contact with them. The worst thing would be to be discharged to be on your own if you have breathing difficulties again. I do hope that they get to the bottom of it so that you can start treatment and management to help you lead a normal life. Please let us know how you go on.

Hi- it seems the doctor is being thorough and checking every avenue. I had some of these tests done after a long spell of being ill and nothing showing on chest x rays (the tests came back negative)

Thank you Dickinson. I hope it’s the same in my case. They have found something on my X Ray. It’s like a bit of net curtain in both lungs. They thought it might be interstitial and with the breathing tests they are saying it could be Pneumonitis or aspergillosis. It’s like she said I’m a bit of a mystery. That’s me! Very mysterious! Sorry! I couldn’t resist that. I’m actually ok in myself apart from a bit tired and my breathing is not quite right.
