Hi Trajam17. If you are struggling to breathe you obviously have an issue that needs attending to. Go back to your doctor and insist that You need further investigation, preferably by a respiratory specialist as you are obviously breathless and they have failed to help you so far. Good luck.

An X-ray does not always show respiratory or cardiac problems. You do need to insist on being referred to see a respiratory consultant, being breathless is a matter of concern and really needs to be investigated thoroughly.

When I was first diagnosed with severe emphysema the only clue from an x-ray was just hyper-inflated lungs. It then took a referral to a respiratory consultant with a CT Scan and a spirometry test to make an actual diagnosis and then I was referred on to the cardiac unit because of the circulation problems in my legs who then also detected a slight heart problem as well, which also contributes towards breathlessness.

Hi

The X-Ray is to rule out other causes, there may be several test your GP may refer you for before you are properly diagnosed and receive the correct treatment. Do go back to your GP in the meantime take things at a slower pace.

My X-rays have always been clear despite the areas of consolidation that were spotted on CT, my weak diaphragm and small Airways Disease that are very apparent on PFT's. X-rays are relatively insensitive for soft tissue conditions.

Usually COPD is diagnosed through a spirometry test/ reading and hopefully later (if diagnosed with COPD )a CT scan would diagnose the “type” of COPD I.e. emphysema , chronic bronchitis , bronchiectasis.

Hello Trajam17 .

I have a lung disease that shows absolutely nothing on an x-ray and even on a CT scan you can't see much of the scarring because the damage is in the tiniest airways, yet my lung function is at about 35%. Not everything shows up on scans. Different conditions have different ways of diagnosis. Have you had a spirometry test or a six minute walk test? Do your oxygen levels drop at all?

You are NOT a fraud.

Warm wishes,

Cas xx 🌸🌻
