Yes my tastes have changed quite a lot. My biggest change is last year I ate more fruit than in my entire life, this year is following suit. I used to hate garlic but now I tolerate it okay. I drink a pint of milk a day which I have not done since knee high. Fried food is off the menu now. Weird, but I just accept it as "the body knows what it needs" and transmits this to your brain as likes and dislikes or cravings, as long as you have a healthy balanced diet then go with it and enjoy your new "taste experiences".
Taffie,it could be as a result of one of your strokes, when my dear wife Cecilia suffered a stroke many tastes and smells she once really liked were suddenly quite repulsive to her....regards Ski's and Scruff's
what did or does she eat now as i only crave sweet foods
i am sorry taffie she passed away last year ,not stroke related i might add,she ate most things but her previous enjoyment of spicy food seemed to be a lot more restricted and even silly things like beetroots which she loved became horrible to her, fatty foods were liked much less as well.have you tried speaking to the Salts team(speech and language)at your local hospital as sometimes they will investigate post stroke problems to deal with eating and taste....Ski's x
how long were you married ski and am sorry it must still hurt. i have been married 50 years in october and and am really frightened when i think of losing my much loved husband. life is sometimes so cruel. i will try to contact someone on monday if i can but it is hard to find where to get help these days. thankyou ski x
thats no problem taffie, only half as long as you at 25yrs and yes i still pine for her and it is very painful but life goes on.Ask your gp for a referral to salts it may take some time and if you want to speed up the process you could say you are having post stroke problems with 'dysphagia' it may be a little fib but you will get to be referred to the best team to investigate your problems.popping you on an Nhs linl

Well, this change of likes and dislikes could be an opening for a more healthy diet and a new way of looking at things. Good luck.

Hi taffie22, since December I have had something akin to a cold, blowing my nose and coughing 24/7, which the hospital doctor has said is not my bronch and is probably an allergy, anyway, I cant smell or taste properly which is having huge impact on me as I love cooking but food at the moment is like eating cardboard so can understand your problem, as I love garlic. Perhaps it is your bodies way of cutting out the foods that are bad for you, instead of frying try roasting or steaming. Try new recipes and new foods, it all helps, good luck x
I haven't had a stroke but I do have COPD, asthma and bronchiectasis. Last year I seemed to lose my normal sense of taste and went off food to the point that I lost a stone in weight. I'm pleased to report that my taste buds seem to have returned to normal, especially the past few months. I was having an infection on a monthly basis but have been fine since February so I'm putting it down to that.
Hope you soon get some help as it's miserable when you don't want your food and just eat because it's in front of you. Skis idea of the Speech and Language therapist sounds a good one.
Good luck. xx Moy
